Este itinerario ya merece por sí mismo justificada atención, como también la merece su ingente producción artística, debido al impacto y la resonancia que tienen, no sólo de cara al pasado, para elaborar la memoria colectiva de la historia del siglo XX, sino también con vistas a un presente y futuro donde se impone la retórica belicista de las grandes potencias. Tres etapas diferentes estructuran el devenir profesional de este cartelista y fotomontador, que conocía bien las técnicas vanguardistas formales y plásticas. En la primera, antes del estallido de la contienda bélica del 36, produce su manifiesto &#8220;La función social del cartel&#8221;, donde reflexiona sobre la intención pedagógica del mismo. La segunda etapa, mexicana, se caracteriza por la colaboración con Siqueiros en grandes murales políticos. Y por último, la tercera da a conocer la obra maestra de su vida The American Way of Life, que ultimaría en la capital de la República Democrática de Alemania.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract In this paper we aim a theoretical and critical approach to the work of the Valencian artist Josep Renau Berenguer who, after being in important positions during the Second Republic in Spain, was forced into exile in Mexico and then in German communist Berlin. This itinerary already deserves justified attention, as does its enormous artistic production, due to the impact and resonance they have, not only in the face of the past, to elaborate the collective memory of the history of the twentieth century, but also with a view to a present and future where the War rhetoric of the great powers is increasing. There are three different stages in his professional evolution of this poster artist and photoeditor, who knew well the formal and plastic avant-garde techniques. In the first, before the outbreak of the war of 36, he produces his manifesto &#8220;The social function of the poster&#8221;, where he reflects on the pedagogical intention of it. The second stage, Mexican, is characterized by the collaboration with Siqueiros in large political murals. And finally, the third unveils the masterpiece of his life The American Way of Life, which he would finish in the capital of the Democratic Republic of Germany.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="fr"><p><![CDATA[Résumé Dans cet article, nous adoptons une approche théorique et critique de l'&#339;uvre de l'artiste valencien Josep Renau Berenguer qui, après avoir occupé des postes importants pendant la Seconde République en Espagne, a été contraint de s'exiler au Mexique, puis dans le Berlin allemand communiste. Cet itinéraire mérite en soi toute notre attention, tout comme son énorme production artistique, en raison de l'impact et de la résonance qu'elle a, non seulement par rapport au passé, pour élaborer la mémoire collective de l'histoire du XXème siècle, mais aussi en vue d'un présent et d'un futur où s'impose la rhétorique belliciste des grandes puissances. Le parcours professionnel de cet affichiste et photomontagiste, rompu aux techniques formelles et plastiques d'avant-garde, s'est structuré en trois étapes différentes. Dans la première, avant le début de la guerre en 1936, il réalise son manifeste &#8220;La fonction sociale de l'affiche&#8221; dans lequel il réfléchit à sa finalité éducative. La deuxième étape, au Mexique, est caractérisée par sa collaboration avec Siqueiros sur de grandes fresques politiques. Enfin, la troisième étape voit la sortie du chef-d'&#339;uvre de sa vie, The American Way of Life, qu'il achève dans la capitale de la République Démocratique Allemande.]]></p></abstract>
