En el caso de los encinos, son escasas las investigaciones que evalúan la fenología reproductiva y vegetativa, en particular sobre Quercus durifolia Seemen ex Loes., especie endémica que se distribuye principalmente en zonas de transición de la Sierra Madre Occidental. El objetivo fue describir los cambios biológicos que muestra esta especie, ante la variación estacional y climática en un periodo de nueve meses. Se seleccionaron al azar seis árboles adultos, en cada uno se marcaron seis ramas y se observó el avance fenológico cada 15 días. Lo anterior, se realizó con la toma de imágenes fotográficas, el registro y caracterización de cada cambio biológico; además, se monitoreó la temperatura y precipitación. Los resultados mostraron que Quercus durifolia tuvo seis fases fenológicas definidas durante el periodo de evaluación: defoliación, brotación, floración, fructificación, desarrollo de hojas y ramas, y dispersión de bellotas; dichas fases no se presentaron de manera homogénea en los árboles evaluados, donde solo 50 % produjeron bellotas. Este estudio resalta la complejidad y diversidad de los ciclos de vida de los encinos, incluso entre individuos de la misma especie y ubicación geográfica.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Phenological studies have proven to be valuable for understanding ecosystem dynamics and can play a crucial role in the conservation of plant species. In the case of oaks, there are few studies that evaluate reproductive and vegetative phenology, particularly on Quercus durifolia Seemen ex Loes., an endemic species that is mainly distributed in transition zones of the Sierra Madre Occidental. The objective was to describe the biological changes that this species shows, in response to seasonal and climatic variation over a nine-month period. Six adult trees were randomly selected, six branches were marked on each one and the phenological progress was observed every 15 days. The above was carried out by taking photographs, recording and characterizing each biological change, and monitoring temperature and precipitation. The results showed that Quercus durifolia had six defined phenological phases during the evaluation period: defoliation, sprouting, flowering, fruiting, leaf and branch development, and acorn dispersion. It was also observed that these phases did not occur homogeneously in the evaluated trees, where only 50 % of the total produced acorns. This study highlights the complexity and diversity of the life cycles of oaks, even among individuals of the same species and geographic location.]]></p></abstract>
