Es un estudio cualitativo y de investigación documental y exploratoria que retoma los documentos oficiales de 21 exámenes aplicados en 36 países. Los resultados muestran que: a) la cultura de los exámenes se ha desarrollado a lo largo de más de dos siglos, inicialmente en países europeos; b) se advierte la presencia del mismo examen en diferentes países, y c) la mayoría de los exámenes son administrados por agentes nacionales. Se concluye que los exámenes estandarizados tienen como propósitos: ser una herramienta para auxiliar en la evaluación de las prácticas pedagógicas de la escuela; certificar el aprendizaje de los estudiantes al finalizar la educación secundaria, y facilitar el acceso a las universidades y/o al área de desempeño profesional.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The article analyzes the different standardized exams that are applied to high school students at the national level in several countries in American and European. Specifically, it is dedicated to the year of creation and the agents responsible for its management. It is a qualitative study, configured as a documentary and exploratory research that assumes the official documents of 21 exams applied in 36 countries. The results show three aspects: a) the culture of the exams has been developed over more than two centuries, starting in European countries; b) the presence of the same exam in different countries, c) most of them are administered by national agents. It concludes that the standardized exams have the following purposes: to be a tool to help in the evaluation of the school&#8217;s pedagogical practices; certify the students learning at the end of high school, and facility access to universities and/or the area of professional performance.]]></p></abstract>
