Antes que medios de transportes los ferrocarriles fueron uno de los grandes motores de la industrialización y de la expansión imperialista de los países desarrollados; su localización territorial es fiel reflejo de las relaciones y contradicciones entre los distintos grupos de poder económico y político que intervinieron en su construcción. La construcción de la red férrea mexicana, realizada en gran medida por capital extranjero, pero en la que incide de alguna manera la participación de las incipientes burguesías regionales y del poder político central, es el elemento integrador de mayor peso en la determinación de las características espaciales que adquiere el desarrollo de la economía capitalista en la época porfiriana.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Railroads, after a hundred and fifty years of existence in the world and a century in Mexico, have been a determinant factor in the construction of the economic space in capitalist societies. Rather than being only a way of transportation, railroads became a major motive for industrialization and imperialist expansion of the developed countries. The spatial location of railroads is an exact image of the relationships and contradictions among different groups of economic and political power intervening in their construction. The Mexican railroad network was mainly built with capital investment from abroad. Regional bourgeoisies, incipient as they were at the begining of this century, and the centralized political power also financed the construction of railroads in Mexico. So, railroads turn to be the most important element in the spatial configuration of the development of the capitalist economy in the Porfirio Díaz period.]]></p></abstract>

Antes que medios de transportes los ferrocarriles fueron uno de los grandes motores de la industrializaci&oacute;n y de la expansi&oacute;n imperialista de los pa&iacute;ses desarrollados; su localizaci&oacute;n territorial es fiel reflejo de las relaciones y contradicciones entre los distintos grupos de poder econ&oacute;mico y pol&iacute;tico que intervinieron en su construcci&oacute;n.</font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">La construcci&oacute;n de la red f&eacute;rrea mexicana, realizada en gran medida por capital extranjero, pero en la que incide de alguna manera la participaci&oacute;n de las incipientes burgues&iacute;as regionales y del poder pol&iacute;tico central, es el elemento integrador de mayor peso en la determinaci&oacute;n de las caracter&iacute;sticas espaciales que adquiere el desarrollo de la econom&iacute;a capitalista en la &eacute;poca porfiriana.</font></p>  	    ]]></body>
