Echocardiography has become the most important technique for diagnosis.  Objective:  To correlate the left ventricle morphology, left atrial volume index and the E/e&#8217; wave velocity ratio in patients with aortic valve stenosis of different magnitudes.  Methods:  Conventional measurements in M-mode echocardiography, two-dimensional, pulsed, continuous, color and tissue Doppler reports were performed, obtaining: left ventricle diastolic diameter, left ventricle systolic diameter, end-diastole interventricular septum thickness, end-diastole posterior wall thickness, left ventricle ejection fraction, end-diastole thickness/radius ratio, left ventricular mass, end-systole left atrium volume, peak systolic aortic jet velocity, peak and mean systolic aortic gradient and aortic valve area, E wave and e&#8217; wave in 42 patients with diagnosis of aortic stenosis.  Results:  Twelve cases (28.5%) were mild; 17 patients (40.5%) moderate and 13 cases (31%) with severe stenosis. Left ventricle concentric remodeling was three times more in cases of moderate and severe stenosis (p &lt; 0.05). End-systole left atrial volume increased 32% in moderate stenosis and 33% in severe stenosis. The E/e&#8217; wave ratio increased parallel as the severity of the stenosis, 33% in moderate stenosis (p &lt; 0.05) and 56% in severe cases (p &lt; 0.05).  Conclusions:  In aortic stenosis left ventricle concentric remodeling is three times more frequent, end-systole left atrial volume increases more than 30% from moderate degrees and E/e´ wave ratio increases 30% in moderate cases and 50% in severe cases. The latter two could be used as new markers of aortic stenosis severity classification.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen:  Introducción:  La estenosis aórtica es la cardiopatía valvular más frecuente, con incidencia del 2 al 9% en pacientes de edad avanzada. La ecocardiografía se ha convertido en la técnica más importante para el diagnóstico.  Objetivo:  Correlacionar la morfología del ventrículo izquierdo, el índice de volumen auricular izquierdo y la relación de velocidad de onda E/e &#8216; en pacientes con estenosis valvular aórtica de diferentes magnitudes.  Métodos:  Se realizaron mediciones convencionales en ecocardiografía en modo M, ecografía bidimensional, Doppler pulsado, continuo, color y tisular, obteniéndose: diámetro diastólico del ventrículo izquierdo, diámetro sistólico del ventrículo izquierdo, grosor del septum interventricular en telediástole, fracción de eyección del ventrículo izquierdo, la relación grosor/radio en telediástole, la masa del ventrículo izquierdo, el volumen de la aurícula izquierda telesistólica, la velocidad pico del flujo sistólico aórtico, el gradiente sistólico máximo y medio y el área valvular aórtica, la onda E y la onda e&#8217; en 42 pacientes con diagnóstico de estenosis aórtica.  Resultados:  Doce casos (28.5%) fueron leves; 17 pacientes (40.5%) moderados y 13 casos (31%) con estenosis severa. La remodelación concéntrica del ventrículo izquierdo fue tres veces mayor en los casos de estenosis moderada y severa (p &lt; 0.05). El volumen auricular izquierdo telesistólico aumentó 32% en estenosis moderada y 33% en estenosis severa. La relación de ondas E/e&#8217; aumentó paralelamente a la severidad de la estenosis, 33% en estenosis moderada (p &lt; 0.05) y 56% en casos severos (p &lt; 0.05).  Conclusiones:  En la estenosis aórtica la remodelación concéntrica del ventrículo izquierdo es tres veces más frecuente, el volumen auricular izquierdo telesistólico aumenta más del 30% a partir de los grados moderados y la relación E/e&#8217; aumenta en 30% en casos moderados y 50% en casos graves. Estos dos últimos podrían ser utilizados como nuevos marcadores de la clasificación de la gravedad de la estenosis aórtica.]]></p></abstract>
