Actualmente no existe un estudio amplio del comportamiento reproductivo que permita eficientar el manejo agronómico. El objetivo del presente estudio fue caracterizar el comportamiento reproductivo de T. cacao ecotipo Complejo Trinitario Mexicano en el sureste de México. Se contabilizó el número de flores abiertas, frutos nuevos, frutos de 2 a 7 cm, frutos mayores de 7 cm, frutos verdes y frutos maduros cada semana durante un año en cinco plantaciones. Se describió el comportamiento de las variables y se analizó la relación de las variables con la temperatura y humedad relativa. El periodo reproductivo abarcó el año completo. El patrón de floración fue anual, con máxima floración de abril a agosto. El porcentaje de flores que desarrollaron en frutos fue de 6.7 %. El periodo de máxima cantidad de frutos de 2 a 7 cm se presentó de agosto a septiembre y el periodo de máximo número de frutos mayores de 7 cm se mostró de agosto a noviembre. La mayor cantidad de frutos verdes se registró de octubre a diciembre y el mayor número de frutos maduros se presentó en noviembre y diciembre. Temperaturas mayores de 25 °C mostraron correlación de Spearman positiva con la densidad de flores abiertas (&#961; = 0.68 a 0.81) y frutos nuevos (&#961; = 0.41 a 0.54); sin embargo, la humedad relativa correlacionó negativamente con estas variables, &#961; = -0.36 a -0.65 y &#961; = -0.31 a -0.47, respectivamente. El periodo de mayor cantidad de frutos verdes y maduros correlacionó negativamente con la floración y frutos nuevos. El patrón fenológico propuesto puede ser indicativo de las tendencias de T. cacao en la región. Este estudio podría ser la base para la comparación de clones y la planificación de estrategias de manejo del cultivo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[SUMMARY Cacao (Theobroma cacao) is one of the main agricultural crops in Southeastern Mexico. Currently, there is no comprehensive study on reproductive behavior that allows efficient agronomic management. The objective of this study was to characterize the reproductive behavior of T. cacao ecotype Mexican Trinitario Complex in Southeastern Mexico. The number of open flowers, new fruits, fruits of 2 to 7 cm, fruits larger than 7 cm, green fruits and ripe fruits were accounted every week for one year in five plantations. The behavior of the variables was described and the relationship of those variables with temperature and relative humidity was analyzed. The reproductive period spanned the whole year. The flowering pattern was annual, with maximum flowering from April to August. The percentage of flowers that developed into fruits was 6.7 %. The period of maximum amount of fruits of 2 to 7 cm was shown from August to September and the period of highest number of fruits larger than 7 cm was from August to November. The highest number of green fruits was recorded from October to December and the highest number of ripe fruits occurred in November and December. Temperatures above 25 °C showed positive Spearman correlation with the density of open flowers (&#961; = 0.68 to 0.81) and new fruits (&#961; = 0.41 to 0.54); however, relative humidity negatively correlated with these variables, &#961; = -0.36 to -0.65 and &#961; = -0.31 to -0.47, respectively. The period of larger quantity of green and ripe fruits negatively correlated with flowering and new fruits. The proposed phenological pattern may be indicative of T. cacao trends in the region.
