Las diferencias metabólicas y sociales entre sexos influyen en el perfil lipídico y en el riesgo cardiovascular. En México, factores como la obesidad, la diabetes, el uso de anticonceptivos y el limitado acceso a servicios de salud agravan esta situación.  Objetivo: Describir el perfil lipídico en mujeres mexicanas con alto y muy alto riesgo cardiovascular, y compararlo con el de los hombres.  Material y métodos: Estudio transversal anidado en la cohorte REMEXDIS (Registro Mexicano de Dislipidemias). Se analizaron variables clínicas, demográficas y bioquímicas en 17,532 pacientes (9536 mujeres). Se aplicaron pruebas estadísticas para identificar diferencias entre sexos.  Resultados: Las mujeres presentaron mayor índice de masa corporal y menor proporción de hipercolesterolemia familiar. Aunque los hombres mostraron valores más altos de colesterol total, colesterol unido a lipoproteínas de baja densidad, triglicéridos y glucosa, las mujeres fueron clasificadas con mayor frecuencia como de muy alto riesgo cardiovascular (59.44% vs. 35.90%; p = 0.01). El 48.36% de las mujeres con dislipidemia no tenían diagnóstico previo.  Conclusiones: Las mujeres mexicanas con riesgo cardiovascular muestran un perfil clínico y metabólico diferente al de los hombres, subrayando la necesidad de estrategias de prevención y diagnóstico específicas para las mujeres.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Background: Cardiovascular diseases are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among women, particularly postmenopausal. Metabolic and social gender differences influence lipid profiles and cardiovascular risk. In Mexico, factors such as obesity, diabetes, hormonal contraceptive use, and limited healthcare access exacerbate this issue.  Objective: To describe the lipid profile of Mexican women with high and very high cardiovascular risk, and compare it to that of men.  Material and methods: A cross-sectional study from the REMEXDIS (Mexican Registry of Dyslipidemia) cohort. Clinical, demographic, and biochemical variables were analyzed in 17,532 patients (9536 women). Statistical tests were applied to identify sex-related differences.  Results: Women had a higher body mass index and a lower rate of suspected familial hypercholesterolemia. Men had significantly higher levels of total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglycerides, and glucose. However, women were more frequently classified as very high cardiovascular risk (59.44% vs. 35.90%; p = 0.01). Notably, 48.36% of dyslipidemic women were previously undiagnosed.  Conclusions: Mexican women with cardiovascular risk exhibit distinct clinical and metabolic characteristics compared to men. These findings highlight the importance of gender-specific strategies for prevention, diagnosis, and management of cardiovascular disease in women.]]></p></abstract>
