Método: Se realizó un estudio prospectivo, longitudinal, descriptivo y observacional. Se incluyeron todos los pacientes con diagnóstico de endotropía monocular congénita con estrabismo disociado compensado. Se realizó examen oftalmológico y estrabológico completo, además de oclusión monocular y maniobra de Posner. La velocidad del movimiento de recuperación se clasificó en lento y rápido. Se realizó la corrección quirúrgica de la desviación horizontal y se observó en qué casos se descompensó la desviación disociada con un seguimiento mínimo de 1 año. Para el análisis estadístico se utilizaron promedios, porcentajes y la prueba exacta de Fisher.  Resultados: Se incluyeron 30 pacientes, de los cuales 19 con movimiento de recuperación rápido y en 11 lento. En 8 de los casos con movimiento lento se descompensó la desviación disociada, y en ninguno del grupo de recuperación rápida (p = 0.03).  Conclusiones: La velocidad del movimiento de recuperación en el estrabismo disociado es un factor predictivo de descompensación.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Objective: To determine if the velocity of the recovery movement in dissociated strabismus is a predictive factor of decompensation.  Method: It was a prospective, transversal, descriptive an observational study. It was included all the patients with the diagnosis of congenital monocular esotropia with compensated dissociated strabismus. A complete ophthalmological examination was performed, including searching for dissociated deviation with monocular occlusion and/or Posner maneuver. The velocity of the recovery movement in dissociated strabismus was classified in slow and fast. In all the patients we perform surgical correction of the horizontal deviation. After at least 1 year of follow up, it was observed in which cases the dissociated deviation was decompensated. The statistical analysis was descriptive, averages were used for quantitative variables and Fisher’s exact test; for qualitative variables percentages and simple frequencies were used.  Results: There were in total 30 patients, 19 with fast recovery movement and in 11 slow. In 8 of the cases with slow movement the dissociated deviation decompensate, and none in the group of fast recovery (p = 0.03).  Conclusions: The velocity of the recovery movement in dissociated strabismus is a predictive factor of decompensation.]]></p></abstract>
