Son necesarias las herramientas que miden la presión intracraneal para dar un tratamiento oportuno y mejorar los días de estancia en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos, además de la mortalidad.  Objetivo:  correlacionar el diámetro de la vaina del nervio óptico medido ecográficamente, contra el método estándar; el catéter intraparenquimatoso cerebral, como predictores de hipertensión intracraneal.  Material y métodos:  estudio prospectivo, longitudinal, experimental y analítico, en pacientes mayores de 16 años de ambos sexos, que ingresaron a la neurointensiva. Se efectuaron mediciones de la vaina del nervio óptico y se les colocó catéter intraparenquimatoso cerebral a ocho pacientes; se realizaron mediciones cada cuatro horas; se obtuvieron un total de 181 mediciones.  Resultados:  se realizó una correlación por el método estándar, entre el diámetro de la vaina del nervio óptico versus presión intracraneal, con gráfico de dispersión, donde se obtuvo R(2) = 0.89, p = 0.0001, siendo una correlación fuerte. Para finalizar, se graficó un Bland-Altman plot para comparar el método a prueba con el estándar de referencia; se obtuvo un Bias (diferencia de medias) -0.188 ± -0.53, límite inferior -1.231, límite superior 0.8537, mostrando una correlación fuerte.  Conclusiones:  la medición de la vaina del nervio óptico es equitativa con la medición de la presión intracerebral mediante el uso de catéter intraparenquimatoso cerebral; por lo tanto, podemos disponer de ambos métodos para medir la presión intracraneal y guiar nuestro manejo médico.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract:  Introduction:  intracranial hypertension is a syndrome characterized by a sustained increase in intracranial pressure (ICP) above 20 millimeters of mercury for &gt; 5-10 minutes. Tools that measure intracranial pressure are necessary to provide timely treatment and improve the length of stay in the intensive care unit as well as mortality.  Objective:  correlate the diameter of the optic nerve sheath measured ultrasonographically against the standard method; cerebral intraparenchymal catheter, as predictors of intracranial hypertension.  Material and methods:  prospective, longitudinal, experimental and analytical study, in patients over 16 years of age of both sexes, who entered the neurointensive care unit. Measurements of the optic nerve sheath were performed and an intraparenchymal cerebral catheter was placed by intensivists in eight patients, measurements being taken every 4 hours, having a total of 181 measurements.  Results:  a correlation was carried out by the standard method, between DVNO vs PIC, scatter graph, where it was obtained R(2) = 0.89, p = 0.0001, being a strong correlation. Finally, a Bland-Altman plot was plotted to compare the metho d under test (DVNO) with the reference standard (PIC), obtaining a Bias (mean difference) -0.188 ± -0.53, lower limit -1.231 upper limit 0.8537. Showing a strong correlation.  Conclusions:  the measurement of the optic nerve sheath is equivalent to the measurement of intracerebral pressure through the use of intraparenchymal cerebral catheter, therefore we can have both methods to measure intracranial pressure and guide our medical management.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo:  Introdução:  a hipertensão intracraniana é uma síndrome caracterizada por um aumento sustentado durante &gt; 5-10 minutos da pressão intracraniana acima de 20 milímetros de mercúrio. São necessárias ferramentas que medem a pressão intracraniana para fornecer tratamento oportuno e melhorar o tempo de permanência na unidade de terapia intensiva, bem como a mortalidade.  Objetivo:  correlacionar o diâmetro da bainha do nervo óptico medido ultrassonograficamente com o método padrão; o cateter intraparenquimatoso cerebral, como preditores de hipertensão intracraniana.  Material e métodos:  estudo prospectivo, longitudinal, experimental e analítico, em pacientes maiores de 16 anos, de ambos os sexos, internados em unidade de terapia neurointensiva. Realizaram-se medidas da bainha do nervo óptico e colocou-se cateter intraparenquimatoso cerebral por intensivistas em 8 pacientes, realizando-se medições a cada 4 horas, totalizando 181 medições.  Resultados:  realizou-se uma correlação pelo método padrão, entre diâmetro da bainha do nervo óptico versus pressão intracraniana, com gráfico de dispersão, onde foi obtido R2 = 0.89, p = 0.0001, sendo uma correlação forte. Por fim, foi traçado um gráfico de Bland-Altman plot para comparar o método testado com o padrão de referência, obtendo-se um Bias (diferença média) -0.188 ± -0.53, limite inferior -1.231, limite superior 0.8537, mostrando uma forte correlação.  Conclusões:  a medida da bainha do nervo óptico equivale à medida da pressão intracerebral através do uso de cateter intraparenquimatoso cerebral, portanto podemos ter ambos os métodos para medir a pressão intracraniana e orientar nosso manejo médico.]]></p></abstract>
