Se evaluaron cuatro tratamientos (T) que consistieron en un testigo solo pastoreo (en estrella de áfrica) y pastoreo más tres niveles de alimento comercial 0.5 (T2), 1.0 (T3) y 1.5 (T4) kg becerro-1 día-1. Se utilizaron 16 becerros de suizo-cebú de 213.5 ± 6.5 kg de peso y 210 ± 15 días de edad, se formaron cuatro grupos de cuatro animales cada uno. Se evaluó el rendimiento de forraje (RF), la ganancia diaria de peso (GDP), la ganancia de peso acumulada (GPA) y la relación beneficio costo (RBC). Las variables evaluadas se analizaron con procedimiento GLM en un diseño completamente al azar y la comparación de medias mediante Tukey (&#945; = 0.05), en un diseño completamente aleatorizado. El RF fue similar (p &#8805; 0.05) en todos los T; la GDP presentó diferencia (p &#8804; 0.05) con menor valor 0.35 kg d-1 en T1, y mayor en 0.85 kg en T4; la RBC fue diferente (p &#8804; 0.05) mayor valor 4.4 en T2 y menor en T$ 2.2. Los resultados indican que, el rendimiento de materia seca del pasto estrella no es afectado por los tratamientos, el crecimiento de los becerros se mejoró sustancialmente al incrementar el nivel de suplementación, sin embargo, la relación beneficio costo se reduce.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The objective of the research was to evaluate the growth of swiss-zebu calves grazing an african star meadow (Cynodon plectostachyus), supplemented with commercial feed (CA) in Collantes, Pinotepa Nacional, Oaxaca, Mexico. Four treatments (T) were evaluated, consisting of a control only grazing (in African star) and grazing plus three levels of commercial feed 0.5 (T2), 1.0 (T3) and 1.5 (T4) kg calf-1 days-1. 16 swiss-zebu calves weighing 213.5 ± 6.5 kg and 210 ± 15 days old were used; four groups of four animals each were formed. Forage yield (RF), daily weight gain (GDP), cumulative weight gain (APG) and benefit-cost ratio (RBC) were evaluated. The evaluated variables were analyzed with the GLM procedure in a completely randomized design and the comparison of means using Tukey (&#945; = 0.05), The RF was similar (p &#8804; 0.05) in all Ts; GDP showed a difference (p &#8804; 0.05) with a lower value of 0.35 kg days-1 in T1, and a higher value of 0.85 kg in T4; the RBC was different (p &#8804; 0.05) with a higher value of 4.4 at T2 and a lower value at T$ 2.2.
