La aplicación del vermicompost (VC) favorece el crecimiento, desarrollo y la productividad de muchos cultivos, así el objetivo de este estudio fue comparar la fertilización sintética con la aplicación del VC en el rendimiento del melón con acolchado plástico. La siembra se realizó durante la primavera-verano 2019, se aplicó VC a razón de 15 y 30 t·ha-1 y 240-80-00 t·ha-1de N-P-K en camas meloneras de 2 x 8 m con cubiertas de plástico negro y riego por cintilla. Se utilizó un diseño completamente al azar y se comparó con la prueba DMS0.05. Los diámetros polar y ecuatorial, el grosor de pulpa, el peso de fruto y el rendimiento mostraron diferencias, pero los sólidos solubles no presentaron diferencia. El mayor rendimiento de 31.362 t ha-1 fue con la aplicación de 30 t ha-1, lo que indica que esta dosis logró cubrir la demanda nutritiva sin aplicar fertilizantes sintéticos.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract. The application of vermicompost (VC) favors the growth, development and productivity of many crops, so the objective of this study was to compare synthetic fertilization with the application of VC in melon yield with plastic mulch. Planting was done during the spring-summer 2019, VC was applied at the rate of 15 and 30 t·ha-1 and 240-80-00 t·ha-1 of N-P-K in 2 x 8 m melon beds with black plastic covers and drip irrigation. A completely randomized design was used and was compared with the DMS0.05 test. The polar and equatorial diameters, pulp thickness, fruit weight and yield showed significant differences, but soluble solids did not show difference. The highest yield of 31,362 t ha-1 was registered with application of 30 t ha-1, which indicates that this dose managed to cover the nutritional demand without applying synthetic fertilizers.]]></p></abstract>
