F., en áreas con cuatro tratamientos de quemas prescritas (combinaciones de quemas en marzo y mayo a baja y alta intensidad), así como un testigo no quemado, donde se plantaron árboles de dos calidades (planta grande y planta chica) de Pinus hartwegii Lindl. Éstos fueron evaluados a seis meses de la plantación en supervivencia, diámetro, biomasa y concentración foliar de nitrógeno, fósforo y potasio. Se halló que las quemas prescritas en marzo a baja intensidad, no afectaron negativamente la supervivencia de los árboles, y representaron ventaja en términos de biomasa. La planta grande presentó mayores concentraciones de potasio al cabo de seis meses, lo que aunado a su mayor porte la hace particularmente apta para ambientes con bajas temperaturas y limitaciones de humedad.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[SUMMARY This work was conducted at the Ajusco volcano, D.F., Mexico, on areas with four prescribed burning treatments (combinations of March and May burns and high and low fire intensity), plus a non burnt control. On these areas were planted Pinus hartwegii seedlings, corresponding to two seedling-qualities: big seedlings and small seedlings. Such seedlings were evaluated after six months, recording survival, diameter, biomass and foliar concentration of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium. It was found that low intensity March prescribed burns did not affect negatively the tree survival. The trees planted on such treatment had higher biomass. The bigger seedlings had higher potassium foliar concentrations after six months. This last, added to their larger size make them more appropriate for low temperature and moisture limitative environments.]]></p></abstract>
