Its seeds are rich in oil and its stems contain pharmacological and healing properties. The objective of this work was to evaluate the potential of Jatropha dioica Seseé seed oil as a raw material in the production of biodiesel. Seeds of Jatropha dioica Seseé were subjected to extraction, by means of Soxhlet and maceration methods. The obtained oil was physico-chemically characterized and a reaction was made with methanol, in the presence of potassium hydroxide as a catalyzer to obtain a mixture of fatty acids methyl esters (FAME), which was analyzed to evaluate its possible use as a biodiesel. The exhaustive extraction of Jatropha dioica Seseé seeds provided 55.8 % of oil by Soxhlet method, while 43.5 % of oil was extracted by maceration method. Crude oil acid (0.63 ± 0.03 mg KOH g-1) and saponification indexes (44.48 ± 1.27 mg KOH g-1) were considered to carry out biodiesel production by means of alkaline trans-esterification reaction. The analysis of FAME revealed the presence of a high content of linoleic acid (57.77 %) and oleic acid (23.86 %). According to the obtained results, the extraction of Jatropha dioica Seseé seed oil was recommended for its possible use as a biodiesel in the energy industry.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen: Jatropha dioica Seseé es una especie de la familia Euphorbiaceae, pertenece al grupo de especies endémicas en México que no han sido estudiadas y valoradas como recurso fitogenético. Sus semillas son ricas en aceite y sus tallos contienen propiedades farmacológicas y curativas. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar el potencial del aceite de las semillas de Jatropha dioica Seseé como materia prima para la obtención de biodiesel. Las semillas de Jatropha dioica Seseé se sometieron a extracción por los métodos Soxhlet y maceración. El aceite obtenido se caracterizó fisicoquímicamente y se hizo reaccionar con metanol, en presencia de hidróxido de potasio como catalizador (Sharma et al., 2008), para la obtención de la mezcla de ésteres metílicos de ácidos grasos (FAME), dicha mezcla fue analizada para evaluar su posible uso como biodiesel. La extracción exhaustiva de las semillas de Jatropha dioica Seseé, por el método Soxhlet, proporcionó un 55.8 % de aceite, mientras que por maceración se extrajo un 43.5 % de aceite. Los índices de acidez (0.63 ± 0.03 mg KOH g-1) y saponificación (44.48 ± 1.27 mg KOH g-1) del aceite crudo, se consideraron para llevar a cabo la obtención de biodiesel mediante la reacción de transesterificación alcalina. El análisis de FAME reveló la presencia de un alto contenido de ácido linoleico (57.77 %), y oleico (23.86 %). De acuerdo con los resultados obtenidos, se recomienda la extracción de aceite Jatropha dioica Seseé para un posible uso como biodiesel en la industria energética.]]></p></abstract>
