Objetivos:  Determinar la prevalencia de genotipos de virus del papiloma humano (VPH) de alto riesgo detectado mediante reacción en cadena de la polimerasa (PCR) en el estado de Chihuahua.  Material y métodos:  Estudio observacional, transversal y ambispectivo. Se realizó tamizaje a las mujeres de entre 35 a 64 años en las diferentes regiones del estado de Chihuahua, siendo obtenidas muestras para detección de VPH para los genotipos VPH-16 y VPH-18 y pool de VPH de alto riesgo.  Resultados:  Se obtuvieron muestras en 53 municipios del estado de Chihuahua, sumando un total de 2,523 muestras. Se encontró una prevalencia de 19.5%, obteniendo 59 casos con VPH-16, 26 con VPH-18 y 363 con pool de VPH de alto riesgo. Se muestra una correlación positiva con tres variables: inicio de vida sexual temprana (&lt; 18 años), antecedente de múltiples parejas sexuales y tabaquismo con el riesgo de tener infección por VPH de alto riesgo con un riesgo relativo de 1.37, 1.63, y 2.15, respectivamente.  Conclusión:  Mediante este estudio se demostró la alta prevalencia de los genotipos de VPH de alto riesgo en la población del estado de Chihuahua.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: Cervical cancer is the second cause of mortality from malignant neoplasms in women in our country.  Objectives:  To determine the prevalence of high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in the state of Chihuahua.  Material and methods:  Observational, transversal, and ambispective. Women in the different regions of the state of Chihuahua between 35 and 64 years of age were screened, obtaining samples for HPV management to detect HPV-16 and HPV-18 genotypes and the high-risk HPV pool.  Results:  Samples were obtained from 53 municipalities of the State of Chihuahua, adding a total of 2523 samples. A prevalence of 19.5% was found, obtaining 59 cases with HPV-16, 26 with HPV-18, and 363 with a high-risk HPV pool. A positive correlation is shown for the three variables: early sexual initiation (&lt; 18 years), history of multiple sexual partners, and smoking with the risk of having high-risk HPV infection with a relative risk of 1.37, 1.63, and 2.15 respectively.  Conclusion:  This study demonstrated the high prevalence of high-risk HPV genotypes in the population of the state of Chihuahua.]]></p></abstract>
