En esta revisión se aborda la terminología y directrices internacionales que permiten un correcto estudio del efecto de los agentes antimicrobianos y/o sus combinaciones en sistemas in vitro e in vivo. Además se exponen algunas tendencias innovadoras que implican distintas combinaciones entre antibióticos tradicionales o bien, el diseño de mezclas binarias entre múltiples antimicrobianos naturales. Finalmente, se evidencia que el efecto potencial de dichas combinaciones puede ser un excelente indicador de que en un futuro cercano, la terapia combinada puede ser una solución alternativa para mitigar y/o solucionar la multi- resistencia generada por las bacterias contra los antibióticos tradicionales.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: Antibiotic resistance by bacteria is one of the major emerging issues in human and animal health, due to the loss of susceptibility to certain drug's action. This review discuss the terminology and international reference guidelines that allow a right study of the antimicrobial agents' effect and/or their combinations in vitro and in vivo. They're also exposed some innovative trends which implies the use of distinct combinations between traditional antibiotics or the design of binary mixtures among multiple natural antimicrobials. Finally, it is shown that the effect of such mixtures could be an excellent indicator of what, in a future, combined therapy may be an alternative to drug-resistance against traditional antibiotics.]]></p></abstract>
