México ocupa el primer lugar en obesidad con una prevalencia de 33 %. La atención médica para un individuo obeso representa el doble de gasto económico que para una persona sana. Esta patología se encuentra relacionada con enfermedades cardiovasculares, hipertensión, cáncer y diabetes mellitus tipo 2. Últimamente, la obesidad se ha relacionado con la microbiota intestinal y una proporción alterada de dos grupos microbianos dominantes; los Firmicutes y los Bacteroidetes. Este desbalance a favor de los Firmicutes, considerados como extractores de energía por sus actividades enzimáticas y junto a la alta ingesta de alimentos, se considera como factores que influyen en la obesidad de los individuos.]]></p></abstract>

Today, Mexico occupies the first place in obesity with a prevalence of 33%. The cost of medical care for an obese individual is twice of that of a healthy person. This pathology is related with diseases like type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and cáncer. Recently, obesity has been associated with an imbalance of two main microbial groups in the human intestinal microbiome: the Firmicutes and the Bacteroidetes.This imbalance in favor of the Firmicutes considered high-energy pullers from meals by their enzymatic activities, together whit large food intake, genetics and lifestyle are considered as factors involved in obesity.]]></p></abstract>

<body><![CDATA[<p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">&nbsp;<b>Key words:</b> Obesity, metabolic syndrome, gut microbiota.</font></p>  	    <p>&nbsp;</p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2"><b>Introducci&oacute;n</b></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">La Organizaci&oacute;n Mundial de la Salud (OMS) define a la obesidad como una acumulaci&oacute;n anormal o excesiva de grasa que puede ser perjudicial para la salud. Asimismo, la OMS mide el grado de la obesidad mediante el &iacute;ndice de masa corporal (IMC). Esto es, el peso de una persona en kilogramos dividido por el cuadrado de la talla en metros. Una persona con un IMC igual o superior a 30 es considerada obesa.<sup>1</sup> Tambi&eacute;n, se puede determinar por medio de la medici&oacute;n del per&iacute;metro de cintura (PC), el cociente de cintura&#45;cadera (CC), la medici&oacute;n de pliegues cut&aacute;neos y el &iacute;ndice nutricional.<sup>2</sup></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">La obesidad tambi&eacute;n se considera un estado de inflamaci&oacute;n cr&oacute;nica leve, caracterizado por una elevada producci&oacute;n de citoquinas y adipocinas proinflamatorias que contribuyen a alteraciones metab&oacute;licas de forma permanente.<sup>3</sup> Las concentraciones de mediadores inmunol&oacute;gicos, como el factor de necrosis tumoral alfa (TNF&#45;&#945;), la interleucina IL&#45;6, la IL&#45;1&#946;, la prote&iacute;na quimioatrayente MCP1 y la leptina, suelen estar elevadas en la sangre perif&eacute;rica de los sujetos obesos, mientras que las de adiponectina, parecen tener efectos antiinflamatorios en la obesidad.<sup>4</sup></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">En el 2005, se realiz&oacute; un estudio en 106 pa&iacute;ses que representan el 88% de la poblaci&oacute;n mundial, se encontr&oacute; que 396 millones de adultos tienen obesidad. Para el a&ntilde;o 2030 proyectaron que el n&uacute;mero estimado de personas obesas ser&aacute; de 573 millones. Sin embargo, si esta enfermedad no se controla, el n&uacute;mero de personas obesas puede aumentar hasta 1,120 millones. Este posible aumento alarmante de la obesidad es porque los ni&ntilde;os obesos de hoy se convertir&aacute;n en adultos obesos.<sup>5,6</sup> Este aumento en peso corporal sugiere que la obesidad no s&oacute;lo se encuentra influenciada por la ingesta cal&oacute;rica como antiguamente se consideraba, sino tambi&eacute;n por factores socioecon&oacute;micos que se muestran en la <a href="#t1">Tabla 1</a><sup>7&#45;10</sup>, as&iacute; como factores gen&eacute;ticos, neurol&oacute;gicos, endocrinos y la actividad f&iacute;sica.<sup>11,12</sup> Por lo tanto, la obesidad tambi&eacute;n se pude considerar como una consecuencia de un desequilibrio entre la ingesta y el gasto energ&eacute;tico, que conlleva a un incremento excesivo del peso y grasa corporal.<sup>13</sup></font></p>  	    <p align="center"><font face="verdana" size="2"><a name="t1"></a></font></p>  	    <p align="center"><font face="verdana" size="2"><img src="/img/revistas/rmcf/v45n2/a2t1.jpg"></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">En M&eacute;xico, la Encuesta Nacional de Salud y Nutrici&oacute;n (2012) evalu&oacute; a 38,208 personas adultas que representaban a m&aacute;s de 69 millones de mexicanos. La prevalencia de obesidad en este grupo fue de 32.4%, siendo m&aacute;s alta en el sexo femenino (37.5%) que en el masculino (26.8%).<sup>14</sup> En cuanto a la obesidad infantil en el 2012, la prevalencia fue de 17.4% para ni&ntilde;os y 11.8% para ni&ntilde;as entre los 5 y 11 a&ntilde;os de edad. Para hombres y mujeres de 12&#45;19 a&ntilde;os fue de 14.5% hombres y 12.1% mujeres.<sup>15</sup></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">En el 2013 se realiz&oacute; un estudio en hombres y mujeres en donde se calcul&oacute; el incremento de IMC en la poblaci&oacute;n Mexicana a partir del a&ntilde;o 2010 y haciendo una extrapolaci&oacute;n al a&ntilde;o 2050, y se observa una tendencia en el incremento de la obesidad (<a href="#f1">Figura 1</a>).<sup>16</sup></font></p>  	    ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p align="center"><font face="verdana" size="2"><a name="f1"></a></font></p>  	    <p align="center"><font face="verdana" size="2"><img src="/img/revistas/rmcf/v45n2/a2f1.jpg"></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">Actualmente, M&eacute;xico se ha colocado en el primer pa&iacute;s de obesidad mundial con una prevalencia de 32.87% (<a href="http://www.fao.org" target="_blank">www.fao.org</a>). En el 2008, los costos atribuibles a la obesidad fueron de 42,000 millones de pesos, equivalente a 13% del gasto total en salud (0.3% del PIB). De no aplicar intervenciones preventivas o de control costo&#45;efectivas sobre la obesidad y sus comorbilidades (hipertensi&oacute;n, diabetes mellitus tipo 2, enfermedades cardiovasculares y c&aacute;ncer), los costos directos podr&iacute;an ascender para 2017 a 101,000 millones de pesos.<sup>14</sup></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">En el sector salud, de los 32,922,066 derechohabientes que hicieron uso de los servicios m&eacute;dicos del Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) en el a&ntilde;o 2006; mujeres, hombres y adultos mayores de 60 a&ntilde;os presentaron mayor porcentaje de sobrepeso y obesidad (<a href="#f2">Figura 2</a>).<sup>17</sup></font></p>  	    <p align="center"><font face="verdana" size="2"><a name="f2"></a></font></p>  	    <p align="center"><font face="verdana" size="2"><img src="/img/revistas/rmcf/v45n2/a2f2.jpg"></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">El Indicador de A&ntilde;os de Vidas Saludables (AVISA) por grupo de edad y sus equivalentes en personas, estima a los derechohabientes por sobrepeso u obesidad, cuyo producto por el costo m&eacute;dico correspondiente deriva en el impacto financiero para el IMSS. El gasto en la atenci&oacute;n m&eacute;dica de mujeres, hombres y adultos mayores de 60 a&ntilde;os con obesidad represent&oacute; el doble del gasto de una persona en pleno uso de sus funciones (<a href="#f3">Figura 3</a>).<sup>17</sup></font></p>  	    <p align="center"><font face="verdana" size="2"><a name="f3"></a></font></p>  	    <p align="center"><font face="verdana" size="2"><img src="/img/revistas/rmcf/v45n2/a2f3.jpg"></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">Los estudios anteriores, muestran que la obesidad se est&aacute; convirtiendo en una epidemia, un problema grave de salud p&uacute;blica y es el factor principal de riesgo para desarrollar el s&iacute;ndrome metab&oacute;lico (SM), enfermedades cardiovasculares (ECV) y diabetes mellitus tipo 2 (DM2).<sup>18,19,20</sup> Estas patolog&iacute;as son de gran relevancia, ya que los estudios realizados por el Instituto Nacional de Estad&iacute;sticas y Geograf&iacute;a (INEGI) en 2011, la DM2 (13.7%), las enfermedades isqu&eacute;micas del coraz&oacute;n (12%), las del h&iacute;gado (5.5%) y las cerebrovasculares (5.3%) fueron las principales causas de muerte de la poblaci&oacute;n, las cuales ocasionaron 36.5% de los decesos totales.<sup>21</sup></font></p>  	    ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">En 2011 DM2 fue la principal causa de muerte en el pa&iacute;s con una incidencia de 69.8 defunciones por cada 100 mil habitantes; 74.1% de estas defunciones se concentraron en la poblaci&oacute;n de 60 a&ntilde;os y m&aacute;s. Sin embargo, para las ECV se report&oacute; una tasa de 122 defunciones por cada 100 mil habitantes. Es importante se&ntilde;alar que en este grupo se encuentran las defunciones por enfermedades isqu&eacute;micas del coraz&oacute;n y las enfermedades cerebrovasculares que representan la segunda y cuarta causa de defunci&oacute;n a nivel nacional. De las personas que fallecieron por enfermedades del sistema circulatorio, 51.4% son hombres y 48.6% fueron mujeres de 60 a&ntilde;os y m&aacute;s.<sup>21</sup></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2"><b>Obesidad y s&iacute;ndrome metab&oacute;lico</b></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">Como ya se mencion&oacute;, la obesidad es un factor de riesgo para desarrollar SM que se acompa&ntilde;a de otros factores como la hipertensi&oacute;n arterial, alteraci&oacute;n de la glucosa, niveles altos de triglic&eacute;ridos, niveles bajos de lipoprote&iacute;nas de alta densidad (HDL) y resistencia a la insulina. Estos factores de riesgo conducen al desarrollo de ECV y DM2.<sup>22</sup> La OMS fue la primera organizaci&oacute;n que dio a conocer los criterios cl&iacute;nicos del SM (<a href="#t2">Tabla 2a</a>),<sup>23</sup> entre el m&aacute;s importante esta la resistencia a la insulina, la cual se ve asociada con la DM2.</font></p>  	    <p align="center"><font face="verdana" size="2"><a name="t2"></a></font></p>  	    <p align="center"><font face="verdana" size="2"><img src="/img/revistas/rmcf/v45n2/a2t2.jpg"></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">En el 2001, el Tercer Panel de Expertos sobre la Detecci&oacute;n, Evaluaci&oacute;n y Tratamiento de los Niveles Sangu&iacute;neos Elevados de Colesterol en Adultos <i>(Adult Treatment Panel 111 o ATP III),</i> present&oacute; un conjunto de criterios de riesgo asociados con el estilo de vida, que constituyen el SM; el diagn&oacute;stico de SM se establece con la presencia de tres o m&aacute;s componentes (<a href="#t2">Tabla</a> <a href="#t2">2b</a>).<sup>24</sup></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">La versi&oacute;n m&aacute;s reciente del SM est&aacute; dada por la Federaci&oacute;n Internacional de diabetes (IDF), donde esta solo toma en cuenta la circunferencia de la cintura (WC) como criterio principal (<a href="#t2">Tabla 2c</a>).<sup>18</sup> Estos criterios de riesgo est&aacute;n descritos en la <a href="#t2">Tabla 2</a> y se han utilizado para la elaboraci&oacute;n de estudios del SM (<a href="#t3">Tabla 3</a>).<sup>25&#45;28</sup></font></p>  	    <p align="center"><font face="verdana" size="2"><a name="t3"></a></font></p>  	    <p align="center"><font face="verdana" size="2"><img src="/img/revistas/rmcf/v45n2/a2t3.jpg"></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">En M&eacute;xico tambi&eacute;n se han reportado estudios sobre la prevalencia del SM, Aguilar&#45;Salinas et al.<sup>29</sup> realizaron un estudio con 2,158 hombres y mujeres de 20 a 69 a&ntilde;os de edad y demostraron que la prevalec&iacute;a de SM fue de 13.6 % con el criterio de la OMS y de 26.6 % con el criterio NCEP&#45;ATPIII. As&iacute; mismo, Halley&#45;Castillo et al.<sup>30</sup> en un estudio con 1,366 ni&ntilde;os y adolescentes entre 7&#45;14 a&ntilde;os de edad, observaron que la prevalencia de SM fue de 19.6% en ni&ntilde;os con sobrepeso y obesidad.</font></p>  	    ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2"><b>Obesidad y Diabetes Mellitus tipo 2 (DM2)</b></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">La obesidad es un factor de riesgo que conlleva a la DM2 en donde el s&iacute;ntoma com&uacute;n es la resistencia a la insulina, lo que provoca un deterioro de la regulaci&oacute;n de la glucosa en la sangre.<sup>19</sup> Algunos estudios longitudinales muestran que la incidencia de DM2 se encuentra asociada a la obesidad. Kramer et al.<sup>31</sup> en un estudio con una duraci&oacute;n de 20 a&ntilde;os, demostraron que en una poblaci&oacute;n de obesos, 4,162 no ten&iacute;an diabetes y 40,376 ten&iacute;an DM2, concluyendo que la prevalencia de obesidad aument&oacute; en las personas sin DM2 y que esto repercuti&oacute; en el probable desarrollo de la DM2 en esta poblaci&oacute;n. As&iacute; mismo, Asnawi et al.<sup>32</sup> realizaron un estudio que tuvo un seguimiento de 48 a&ntilde;os, con 1,256 participantes obesos que no hab&iacute;an desarrollado DM2.</font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">Los resultados mostraron que las personas con antecedentes de obesidad, tuvieron mayor riesgo de desarrollar DM2. Este riesgo fue mayor en hombres y en mujeres mayores de 50 a&ntilde;os. T&#45;Nguyen et al.<sup>33</sup> realizaron un estudio con 21,205 participantes (delgados y obesos) durante 6 a&ntilde;os y demostraron la asociaci&oacute;n de la obesidad con la DM2; en los adultos delgados (IMC &lt; 25) la prevalencia de DM2 fue menor, mientras que la prevalencia aument&oacute; considerablemente en todo los pacientes que ten&iacute;an obesidad.</font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2"><b>Obesidad y Enfermedades Cardiovasculares (ECV)</b></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">La obesidad es el desorden m&aacute;s com&uacute;n en los pa&iacute;ses industrializados y se asocia con el incremento en la mortalidad y morbilidad de las ECV.<sup>34</sup> Goya&#45;Wannamethee et al.<sup>35</sup> estudiaron las enfermedades asociadas al sobrepeso y la obesidad en un seguimiento durante 20 a&ntilde;os con 4,232 hombres brit&aacute;nicos de 60 a 79 a&ntilde;os y concluyeron que las personas de edad avanzada con sobrepeso y obesidad padecen patolog&iacute;as asociadas a trastornos relacionados con ECV. Jiang et al.<sup>36</sup> en un estudio de 8 a&ntilde;os con 85,949 hombres y mujeres de 55 a 74 a&ntilde;os de edad, clasificados mediante el IMC en delgados, con sobrepeso y obesos, demostraron que el riesgo de desarrollar alguna enfermedad cardiovascular aument&oacute; en los obesos mientras que los sujetos delgados y con sobrepeso no mostraron riesgo de desarrollar ECV. F&eacute;lix&#45;Redondo et al.<sup>37</sup> realizaron un estudio con 28,887 participantes hombres y mujeres de 35 a 75 a&ntilde;os, clasific&aacute;ndolos en delgados, con sobrepeso y obesos con base a su IMC y CC. Los resultados demostraron que los factores de riesgo para desarrollar ECV aumentaron significativamente en relaci&oacute;n al IMC o al CC y no encontraron una relaci&oacute;n de las ECV con la edad.</font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">Como la obesidad es un factor central para desarrollar SM, DM2 y ECV y que estas son principales causas de muerte, se han implementado alternativas que ayudan a combatir la obesidad.</font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2"><b>Alternativas para la obesidad</b></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">La FDA (Food and Drug Administration) actualmente permite el uso de ciertos medicamentos en tratamientos contra la obesidad,<sup>38,39</sup> y que incluyan otro tipo de alternativas como la dieta, actividad f&iacute;sica, y en algunos casos la implementaci&oacute;n de t&eacute;cnicas quir&uacute;rgicas como bypass g&aacute;strico, que ha demostrado ser eficaz para la erradicaci&oacute;n de la obesidad. Este procedimiento consiste en separar una peque&ntilde;a parte del est&oacute;mago que se conecta directamente a los intestinos, las personas tienden a sentir menos hambre, se siente llenan m&aacute;s r&aacute;pido, queman m&aacute;s calor&iacute;as en reposo y pierden hasta un 75% de grasa.<sup>40</sup> En cuanto a la dieta, se sabe que el exceso de energ&iacute;a obtenida se debe a los alimentos ricos en carbohidratos y grasas, existiendo una correlaci&oacute;n entre las grasas consumidas y la ganancia de peso.<sup>41</sup> La actividad f&iacute;sica se relaciona con los procesos de regulaci&oacute;n para el mantenimiento de la masa corporal y la adiposidad, esto representa el 20&#45;50% de gasto energ&eacute;tico,<sup>42</sup> por lo que el prospecto ideal es reducir la ingesta de calor&iacute;as y a su vez aumentar la actividad f&iacute;sica.<sup>43</sup></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2"><b>&iquest;C&oacute;mo se relaciona la microbiota intestinal con la obesidad?</b></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">En los &uacute;ltimos a&ntilde;os, se ha demostrado que existe una correlaci&oacute;n entre la microbiota intestinal y la obesidad.</font></p>  	    ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">De acuerdo con el Centro Nacional de Informaci&oacute;n en Biotecnolog&iacute;a (NCBI por sus siglas en ingl&eacute;s) del Instituto Nacional de Salud (NIH, USA), los primeros estudios de obesidad se empezaron a publicar en 1880 y las publicaciones sobre microbiota intestinal iniciaron en el a&ntilde;o de 1984. El creciente inter&eacute;s de la comunidad cient&iacute;fica internacional por el estudio de la microbiota intestinal y la obesidad se muestra con el aumento significativo de art&iacute;culos publicados como se observa en la <a href="#f4">Figura 4</a>. B&auml;ckhed et al.<sup>44</sup> en el a&ntilde;o 2004, reportaron la relaci&oacute;n que existe entre la acumulaci&oacute;n de grasa y la microbiota intestinal. Los autores trasplantaron la microbiota intestinal de ratones normales a ratones libres de g&eacute;rmenes utilizados como receptores y observaron un incremento del 47% en la acumulaci&oacute;n de grasa corporal sin un aumento en el consumo de alimentos. De ah&iacute; surgi&oacute; la hip&oacute;tesis de que la composici&oacute;n de la comunidad microbiana intestinal incrementa la extracci&oacute;n de energ&iacute;a de los alimentos que produce el aumento de grasa corporal. En la <a href="#t4">Tabla 4</a><sup>45&#45;55</sup> se mencionan otros estudios de la relaci&oacute;n de la microbiota intestinal con la obesidad.</font></p>  	    <p align="center"><font face="verdana" size="2"><a name="f4"></a></font></p>  	     <p align="center"><font face="verdana" size="2"><img src="/img/revistas/rmcf/v45n2/a2f4.jpg"></font></p>     <p align="center"><font size="2" face="verdana"><a name="t4"></a></font></p>  	    <p align="center"><font face="verdana" size="2"><img src="/img/revistas/rmcf/v45n2/a2t4.jpg"></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2"><b>Mecanismo de interacci&oacute;n de la microbiota intestinal con la obesidad</b></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">La microbiota intestinal y su efecto en la obesidad es debido a las actividades metab&oacute;licas de las bacterias, que tienen la capacidad de extraer energ&iacute;a a partir de los alimentos, que ayuda a su proliferaci&oacute;n y almacenamiento de calor&iacute;as en tejido adiposo.<sup>56,57</sup> Existen tres mecanismos implicados en el almacenamiento de calor&iacute;as en forma de grasa.</font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">El primer mecanismo incluye las funciones metab&oacute;licas mediante la fermentaci&oacute;n de carbohidratos complejos que el hombre no puede degradar, como productos del metabolismo se producen &aacute;cidos grasos de cadena corta (AGCC), como acetato, propionato y butirato. Los AGCC tienen diferentes funciones; como fuente de energ&iacute;a en las c&eacute;lulas epiteliales del intestino grueso e intervienen en los procesos de gluconeog&eacute;nesis y lipog&eacute;nesis en hepatocitos, colonocitos y adipocitos. Tambi&eacute;n, act&uacute;an como mol&eacute;culas de se&ntilde;alizaci&oacute;n que estimulan efectos antiinflamatorios, anti&#45;tumorigenicos y regulan la expresi&oacute;n de hormonas como leptina y p&eacute;ptido YY, encargadas de la regulaci&oacute;n del apetito y el metabolismo de la energ&iacute;a en los adipocitos.<sup>58,59</sup></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">En el segundo mecanismo, la microbiota intestinal suprime el factor de ayuno inducido por adipocitos <i>(Fiaf)</i> cuya funci&oacute;n es inhibir la lipoprote&iacute;na lipasa (LPL). Al existir un aumento de LPL se favorece la velocidad de absorci&oacute;n de &aacute;cidos grasos que se van a depositar en m&uacute;sculo y tejido adiposo.<sup>56,60</sup></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">El tercer mecanismo est&aacute; dado por la prote&iacute;na kinasa AMP (AMPK), que funciona como un indicador de combustible al controlar el estado de energ&iacute;a celular. Su actividad es regulada por las hormonas leptina y adiponectina, la falta de ox&iacute;geno, ejercicio y por bajos niveles de glucosa. La microbiota intestinal suprime el AMPK y favorece la acumulaci&oacute;n de &aacute;cidos grasos de cadena larga en las c&eacute;lulas del colon, h&iacute;gado y tejido adiposo.<sup>56</sup></font></p>  	    ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">Cada mecanismo est&aacute; ligado entre s&iacute;, tal como se muestra en la <a href="#f5">Figura 5</a><sup>61</sup> donde se observa que los nutrientes consumidos por la microbiota intestinal van a aportar la formaci&oacute;n, distribuci&oacute;n e incremento de las grasas que contribuyen a la obesidad.</font></p>  	    <p align="center"><font face="verdana" size="2"><a name="f5"></a></font></p>  	    <p align="center"><font face="verdana" size="2"><img src="/img/revistas/rmcf/v45n2/a2f5.jpg"></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">Actualmente, la relaci&oacute;n de la obesidad y la microbiota intestinal, sigue siendo de gran impacto. Como se demuestra en la <a href="#f4">Figura 4</a> y en la <a href="#t4">Tabla 4</a>, los estudios realizados todav&iacute;a no son suficientes para demostrar c&oacute;mo la microbiota intestinal puede ser responsable de la salud o la enfermedad de un individuo. Es por ello que se necesita conocer m&aacute;s la interacci&oacute;n entre el hu&eacute;sped y la microbiota intestinal y as&iacute; responder a la pregunta &iquest;qu&eacute; o qui&eacute;nes viven dentro del cuerpo y como interaccionan con este?</font></p>  	    <p>&nbsp;</p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2"><b>Conclusiones</b></font></p>  	     <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">El metabolismo energ&eacute;tico    en humanos puede ser regulado por la presencia, composici&oacute;n y acci&oacute;n    metab&oacute;lica de la microbiota intestinal. Adem&aacute;s, los productos    metab&oacute;licos de la microbiota participa en el almacenamiento de grasa    en los adipocitos. La microbiota intestinal de los obesos est&aacute; alterada,    comparada con aquellos individuos delgados, lo que podr&iacute;a explicar su    mayor eficiencia en la extracci&oacute;n de energ&iacute;a a partir de los alimentos.    El contenido en grasa de la dieta tambi&eacute;n es un factor que puede alterar    la composici&oacute;n de la microbiota intestinal, a trav&eacute;s del aumento    de las concentraciones plasm&aacute;ticas de LPS y el consiguiente desarrollo    de un estado pro inflamatorio que facilita la aparici&oacute;n de resistencia    a la insulina.
