</abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en">
Abstract From a methodological point of view, this article examines two contemporary theoretical currents in economics: the mainstream or conventional and the heterodox currents. For this, the dimensions proposed by Amitava Dutt on the composition of an economic theory are related, and the work on the method in the economy of economics Alfred Marshall, an economist who has inherited methodological elements used by both theoretical currents. The relationship makes it possible to identify the weaknesses of each stream and approximate some elements necessary to build an economic theory that minimizes these weaknesses.
</abstract>
