En este trabajo se evaluó el efecto individual y acumulado de las variables sexo, pertenencia étnica y procedencia (urbano/rural) con autoestima y motivación, con el fin de determinar el efecto que tiene en el grupo de estudiantes mujeres. Se utilizaron instrumentos de autopercepción y autovaloración académica en estudiantes de secundaria (n=4,690). Los resultados mostraron asociaciones fuertes para sexo y débiles para pertenencia étnica y procedencia. Al integrar las variables, queda de manifiesto el significativo efecto de cada una en su conjunto, dejando al descubierto las significativas brechas sociales y educativas existentes contra el grupo de mujeres.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: The variables of motivation and self-esteem are closely related to learning and academic performance, while low levels of these variables are associated with sociocultural vulnerability and limited personal and academic development. The current study evaluated the individual and accumulated effects of gender, ethnicity, and origin (urban/rural) on self-esteem and motivation, specifically to determine their effect on a group of female students. Tests of self-perception and self-evaluation were given to secondary school students (n=4,690). The results showed strong associations for gender and weak associations for ethnicity and origin. An integration of the variables revealed their significant effect, along with significant social and educational gaps among the female students.]]></p></abstract>
