El objetivo principal fue caracterizar las propiedades magnéticas de los sedimentos y aportar los primeros datos direccionales paleomagnéticos en esta región. Se identificó como portador magnético principal de la (titano)magnetita. Aunque no se cuenta con dataciones por radioisótopos, se ha empleado un marcador cronoestratigráfico correspondiente a un nivel rico en carbono orgánico en 1980 ± 2 AD para estimar la tasa de sedimentación. Se contrastaron los resultados de inclinación y declinación magnética obtenidos con modelos geomagnéticos globales. Los resultados obtenidos sugieren que la laguna Azul es un sitio potencialmente valioso para futuras investigaciones paleomagnéticas. Además, se realizó un análisis preliminar de las variaciones paleoambientales de cada unidad sedimentaria a través de los resultados de magnetismo de rocas y de las estimaciones de materia orgánica.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT This study presents the first paleomagnetic and rock magnetic results from sediment cores collected in Laguna Azul, located in the Somuncurá Plateau region in Argentina. The main objective is to characterize the magnetic properties of the sediments and provide thefirst paleomagnetic directional data in this region. The primary magnetic carrier was identified as (titano)magnetite. While radioisotope dating has not yet been obtained, a chronostratigraphic marker from a level rich in organic carbon in is used to estimate the sedimentation rate. The magnetic inclination and magnetic declination results obtained have been compared with global geomagnetic models. The obtained results suggest that Laguna Azul is a potentially valuable site for future paleomagnetic research. Additionally, a preliminary paleoenvironmental analysis was carried out for each sedimentar, unit using the rock magnetic and organic matter results.]]></p></abstract>
