En México, el índice más utilizado para determinar el estado trófico de sistemas costeros y marinos es el TRIX.  Objetivos: Evaluar el estado trófico de los sistemas fluvio-lagunares Pom-Atasta (PA) y Palizada del Este (PE) por medio del índice TRIX.  Métodos: Se realizó un muestreo en cada sistema fluvio-lagunar en diez sitios, en diferentes meses, entre los años 2005 y 2014, por medio del cual se recolectaron muestras de agua para medir algunas variables físicas (oxígeno disuelto) y químicas (componentes nitrogenados y fósforo reactivo), así como clorofila a, tanto en la superficie como en medio fondo. Se midió la transparencia del agua y la profundidad de los sitios. Se utilizó el índice TRIX para analizar el estado trófico de los sistemas.  Resultados:  Los sistemas fluvio-lagunares PA y PE se caracterizaron como sistemas oligo tróficos con tendencia mesotrófica.  Conclusiones:  Es necesario continuar con los monitoreos tanto de la calidad del agua de los sistemas Pom-Atasta y Palizada del Este como de las concentraciones de clorofila a para establecer tendencias estacionales o anuales del estado trófico en que se encuentran estos sistemas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Background:  One of the most severe problems in coastal systems is eutrophication. It is a process of anthropic origin that mainly increases the concentrations of nitrogen, organic matter, and/or phosphorus in bodies of water. The trophic index most used in Mexico to determine the state of coastal or marine systems is the TRIX index.  Goals:  To evaluate the trophic state of the Pom-Atasta (PA) and Palizada del Este fluvial-lagoon systems through the TRIX index.  Methods:  During different months from 2005 to 2014, water samples were collected at ten sampling sites for each fluvial-lagoon system to evaluate a number of physical variables (dissolved oxygen), chemicals (nitrogenous components and reactive phosphorus), and chlorophyll a, both on the surface andeat middle depths. The TRIX index was used to analyze the trophic state of the systems.  Results:  The PA and PE systems were characterized as oligotrophic systems with mesotrophic tendency.  Conclusions:  We recommend that the water quality and the magnitude of cholorophyll a at the Pom-Atasta and Palilzadadel Este systems continue to be monitoredain order to establish seasonal or annual trends of the trophic state of these systems.]]></p></abstract>
