Luego de exponer los principales fundamentos de la Teoría cognitiva del aprendizaje multimedia, y de los 12 principios que se desprenden de ella, se desarrollan sus implicaciones para la enseñanza de la química. Como multimedia se hace referencia a presentaciones o comunicaciones que incluyen palabras e imágenes orientadas a fomentar aprendizajes. Se presenta una clasificación de las imágenes de acuerdo a sus funciones comunicacionales y una secuencia para la &#8220;lectura&#8221; de una imagen que incluye tres niveles de interpretación de la información contenida en ella. También se aborda la problemática del uso de diagramas y dibujos esquemáticos para el caso de la química. Finalmente, se insta a reformular la relación que los profesores tienen con respecto al uso de las imágenes y a integrar sistemáticamente palabra e imagen en la enseñanza.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The role of images in the learning and teaching of Chemistry is discussed in this article. After exposing the main foundations of the Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning, and the 12 principles that emerge from it, its implications for the teaching of chemistry are developed. Multimedia makes reference to presentations or communications that include words and images oriented to promote learning. It presents a classification of images according to their communication functions and a sequence for &#8220;reading&#8221; an image that includes three levels of interpretation of the information contained in it. The problem of the use of diagrams and schematic drawings for the case of chemistry is also addressed. Finally, it is urged to reformulate the relationship that teachers have with respect to the use of images and systematically integrate word and image into teaching.]]></p></abstract>
