<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S0187-73802020000500525&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S0187-73802020000500525&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S0187-73802020000500525&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen El Valle de Tehuacán, en el estado de Puebla, México, es reconocido como centro de domesticación y diversidad de varias especies cultivadas, entre ellas el maíz (Zea mays L.); sin embargo, sólo un trabajo ha reportado el potencial elotero de las poblaciones locales de maíz de esa región y no hay estudios sobre el patrón varietal y su rendimiento de grano. El objetivo de este estudio fue identificar el patrón varietal de poblaciones locales del Valle de Tehuacán, para seleccionar las sobresalientes en rendimiento de grano y formar la base genética para un proceso de mejoramiento genético local. En el ciclo PV 2009 se ensayaron, bajo riego, 95 poblaciones locales de maíz, tres testigos raciales y dos testigos comerciales (híbridos), mediante el diseño látice simple 10 × 10, en tres localidades con suelos que presentan valores altos de pH y bajos niveles nutrimentales. Las variables registradas fueron rendimiento de grano, variables fenológicas, agronómicas y características de grano, mazorca y olote, a las cuales se les aplicó un análisis estadístico combinado. Las poblaciones locales de maíz mostraron mejor adaptación que los testigos. El patrón varietal del Valle de Tehuacán estuvo conformado con maíces de grano blanco (60 %), azul (35.8 %) y rojo (4.2 %). El 95 % de las poblaciones locales fueron precoces, con 82 a 96 días a floración femenina (DFF), un testigo comercial se ubicó en el estrato ultraprecoz (menos de 82 DFF) y otro en el precoz. Los maíces precoces rindieron más que los ultraprecoces y existieron diferencias estadísticas entre poblaciones en 85 % de las variables. Las poblaciones locales superaron ampliamente en rendimiento de grano a los testigos comerciales. En éstas, mediante la aplicación de dos modelos, se seleccionaron las 10 mejores con base en su rendimiento promedio y menor interacción con el ambiente. El patrón varietal de las poblaciones locales de maíz del Valle de Tehuacán está integrado por poblaciones precoces de grano blanco, azul y rojo, en las que se definió su base genética para un proceso de mejoramiento genético local.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Summary The Tehuacán Valley, in Puebla state, Mexico, is recognized as a center of domestication and diversity for several cultivated species, including maize (Zea mays L.); however, only one research has reported the potential of local maize populations for tender cob production at this region, and there are no studies related to their varietal pattern and grain yield. The goal of this study was to identify the varietal pattern of local maize populations in the Tehuacán Valley, to select outstanding populations in grain yield to form the genetic basis for a local plant breeding process. In the PV 2009 cycle, 95 local maize populations, three racial and two commercial (hybrids) controls were evaluated, under irrigation, with a simple 10 × 10 lattice design, at three localities with soils that presented high pH values and low nutritional levels. Grain yield and phenological, agronomical, grain and tender cob traits were recorded and analyzed with a statistical combined analysis. Local maize populations showed better adaptation than controls. The varietal pattern from Tehuacán Valley was conformed with white (60 %), blue (35.8 %), and red (4.2 %) corn kernels. Local populations were 95 % early, with 82 to 96 days to female flowering (DFF), a commercial control performed as ultra-early (less than 82 DFF), and another performed as early. Early maize were more yielding than ultra-early ones, and there were statistical differences among populations for 85 % of the variables. Local populations far exceeded in grain yield to the commercial controls. In these varieties, by means of two models, 10 outstanding maize populations were selected on the basis of their average grain yield and low interaction with the environment. The varietal pattern of local maize populations of Tehuacán Valley is integrated by early populations of white, blue and red color grain, in which a genetic basis was defined for a local plant breeding process.]]></p></abstract>
