El regionalismo, como lo conciben las repúblicas de Asia Central, ha resultado ser un tanto tímido, ya que ha tenido poco efecto y no ha contribuido de manera significativa a la integración regional. Para que dicha integración ocurra, es necesario que las repúblicas asiáticas centrales adopten una postura de mayor cooperación, lo que implica ampliar la importancia de las organizaciones multilaterales existentes en la región. Este artículo define Asia Central como los cinco Estados de la Comunidad de Estados Independientes: Kazajistán, Kirguistán, Tayikistán, Turkmenistán y Uzbekistán.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract This article seeks to illustrate the main characteristics of regionalism in Central Asia. This regionalism, as conceived by the Central Asian republics, has been rather timid, has had little effect, and contributed little to regional integration. For this integration to take place, it is necessary for the Central Asian republics to adopt an attitude of greater cooperation, which means increasing the importance of the existing multilateral organizations in the region. This paper defines "Central Asia" as the five states in the Community of Independent States: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.]]></p></abstract>
