El estudio corresponde al depósito de los metales a altas temperaturas. Se han empleado diferentes modelos para investigar las reconstrucciones, encontrándose que el propuesto por Bunk et al. produce las configuraciones más estables para cada uno de los casos. Las estructuras muestran sub-unidades del metal cuya forma es piramidal, con un trímero en la parte más alta. El trímero se compone de un átomo de Si que ocupa la posición vertical más alta y enlazado a dos átomos del metal con posiciones verticales más bajas. En el caso de In, las ligaduras obtenidas de acuerdo con el modelo de Bunk son muy similares a la suma de radios covalentes, indicando que los átomos se encuentran en un ambiente muy favorable. Esto no sucede en los casos de Al y Ga, lo que puede explicar el resultado experimental de que para recubrimiento total la estructura estable de In sobre Si(001) sigue siendo la (4x3), mientras que para Ga y Al cambian a (8 x 5) y c(4 x 2n), respectivamente.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[A comparative study of the (4x3) structure induced by the adsorption of group III metals (In, Al and Ga) on Si(001)-(4x3) is performed using first principles total energy calculations. The study corresponds to the deposition of metals at high temperature. Different models have been used to investigate the surface reconstructions and it has been found that the one proposed by Bunk et al. yielded the most stable configuration for all three cases. The structure showed the formation of pyramid-like metal-subunits with a trimer on top of it. This is composed of a Si atom occupying the highest vertical position and bound to two metal atoms with lower vertical positions. For the case of In, calculated bond lengths according to Bunk's model are similar to the sum of covalent radii. This is not the case of Al and Ga, explaining the experimental results showing that the (4 x 3) structure remains as the stable structure at full In coverage, while for Ga and Al become (8 x 5) and c(4 x 2n), respectively.]]></p></abstract>
