Editorial

It is a great honor and an enormous responsibility for me to assume the position of Editor of the Journal of the Mexican Society, conferred by the Editorial Board, replacing Dr. Juvencio Robles, who left this position on December 31st, 2013. I also inform the resignation of Luz Elena Vera and Cecilio Álvarez as members of the Editorial Board after many years of service, but will continue their support in other ways. We are grateful to all of them for their efficient and generous hard work through the years.

The consolidation and international positioning of the Journal of the Mexican Chemical Society represents an important challenge in this globalized world, especially with open access scientific journals arising from different parts of the planet, with the increase in the number of articles submitted for publication to our journal, and the limited financial supports. These tasks demand continuous and different editorial adjustments that are being undertaken with the collaboration and enthusiastic support of the editorial board members.

I have the pleasure to inform that the complete collection of the Journal of the Mexican Chemical Society (former Revista de la Sociedad Química de México) is available on line in our web site (www.jmcs.org.mx) in a free open access format. This is a service to the chemical community following the ethical standards that scientific results derived from public funding should be publicly available. I also inform that we have been working during the first months of this year with CONACYT (the National Council for Science and Technology) to place in operation the journal through the automated electronic platform (Open Journal System) for its administration and production. This will improve the submission and evaluation processes optimizing the work of authors, referees and editors, but keeping our editorial structure and the highest criteria for scientific evaluations. Therefore, 2014 will be a transitional year for the J. Mex. Chem. Soc., and we hope your support for this issue.

I take this opportunity to acknowledge the important and generous labor of associate editors and referees collaborating with the journal, and we will continue our efforts to provide the best service to the chemical community.

Finally, on behalf of the Editorial Board and the Advisory Editorial Board, I renew the invitation to our colleagues from Mexico and abroad to consider the Journal of the Mexican Chemical Society as the preferred choice for publishing the results of your research.
