Fiftieth Anniversary of Revista de la Sociedad Química de México (Journal of the Mexican Chemical Society)

It is a honor and a great responsibility for me to take the coordination of the Editorial Board of our journal, replacing Prof. Guillermo Delgado-Lamas, who had held this position for a decade. The members of the Sociedad Química de México are grateful to Prof. Delgado for his brilliant and untiring work at the head of the journal that has allowed the journal not only to maintain its scientific quality, but also to achieve a new image. It was transformed into a forum exclusively dedicated to publishing original chemical research, with the aim of obtaining international recognition. All these achievements have been mainly due to the effort of Prof. Delgado, who has accepted a higher responsibility as the new president of the Mexican Chemical Society for the next two years. I wish him all the success in his new duties, hoping that his presence at the head of our Society will contribute to the advancement of chemistry, as well as improve its presence in the basic educational system, higher education and industry, in our country.

This year, we are celebrating the Fiftieth Anniversary of Revista de la Sociedad Química de México, now renamed as the Journal of the Mexican Chemical Society. The aim of this journal is to be an international forum for publishing original and significant contributions of fundamental research in all branches of the experimental and theoretical chemistry. As always all contributions are considered from non-members as well as members of the Mexican Chemical Society. To celebrate this anniversary, the editorial board of the journal invited our colleagues to prepare the first issue this year in the area of Inorganic Chemistry. We gratefully acknowledge Professors Cecilio Alvarez, Hugo Torrens, and Guillermo Delgado for the effort made to accomplish the preparation and printing of this issue, which shows diverse aspects of this area from different Mexican academic institutions.

This second issue has been integrated by contributions that focus on different topics such as asymmetric synthesis and enantioselectivity, kinetic studies, separation of biomolecules and nanostructures, organometallic complexes, and alternative renewable energy sources, among other interesting subjects. I would like to remind all colleagues that as part of the anniversary celebration of our journal, we are preparing a special issue dedicated to organic chemistry. We intend that this issue be the fourth one this year and we call you to submit your manuscripts.

Thank you in advance for your contributions.

On behalf of the Editorial Board, I renew the invitation to our colleagues to consider the Journal of the Mexican Chemical Society as the choice for publishing the products of their research as full papers. A new section of short communications is being designed and will be incorporated in the instructions to authors soon. We intend also to offer an electronic platform for submission, referee process and approval of articles, which will help all of us to better manage the journal and attract new contributors from national and international institutions.

I hope that these new duties as coordinator of the Editorial Board of this journal will contribute to gaining more reader confidence and to consolidating support from our scientific chemical community in order to achieve the goal of a more prestigious journal.
