We are delighted to introduce this special issue which es dedicated to Dr. Pedro Joseph-Nathan, Emeritus Professor at the Chemistry Department of Centro de Investigación y de Estudios Avanzados del Instituto Politécnico Nacional in Mexico City. The editorial board of Revista Latinoamericana de Química has decided in this memorable occasion to honor Dr. Joseph-Nathan in recognition of his outstanding scientific trajectory that has had profound impact on the academic life of Mexico and many countries of Ibero-America. This appreciation for his exceptional collaborative work has granted him many academic awards as the doctorate Honoris causa from Universidad Nacional de Tucumán, Argentina, Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, México, and Universidad de Magallones, Chile. He has authored more than 440 papers in the fields of Organic Chemistry and Spectroscopy with the structure elucidation, chemical transformations, reaction mechanisms and synthesis of numerous natural products, using for his research novel techniques of nuclear magnetic resonance, X-ray diffraction and, more, recently, vibrational circular dichroism. His contribution to the development of human resources in science has been very fruitful. He has guided the doctoral work of 23 specialized researchers, many of them in academic positions in prestigious universities and research centers.

We acknowledge all the authors, reviewers and sponsors for making possible the publication of this number with relevant topics on tandem mass spectrometry, microwave assisted reactions, chemical-optical characterization, theretical chemistry, and synthesis of organic substances, as well as X-ray diffraction studies, structure determination and biological properties of natural products. We welcome this issue wishing Proffesor Pedro Joseph-Nathan all the best for the forthcoming years.
