Temas susceptibles de investigación en la geografía minera mexicana contemporánea

Resumen

El presente trabajo aborda el tema de la minería desde el ángulo de una revisión bibliográfica acerca de las publicaciones recientes y de las que forman ya parte de la historia que, sobre minería, se han generado en este siglo. Antecede a la exposición de los temas que conforman la revisión una breve caracterización de México como país minero. La bibliografía contemporánea sobre la minería incluye temas tan importantes como el de las transnacionales involucradas en el sector, la historia económica de las regiones mineras de diversas partes del mundo, la economía política de la actividad minera y la fuerza de trabajo en la minería. Todos ellos han sido analizados por científicos sociales con diversas formaciones, excepción hecha de los geógrafos. Se finaliza con una proposición de temas que pueden considerarse desde el punto de vista de la geografía, y para el contexto de la actividad minera en México.

 

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to give a broad idea of current literature published on mining. Before the literature review comes a brief description of Mexico as a country where mining has been important ever since the Spanish Conquest. Issues such as transnational corporations in mining, the economic history of mining regions in several parts of the world, the political economy of mining activity and the characteristics of labour force engaged in mining are among those themes included in the literature review. Studies have been carried out by a number of social scientists, sociologists, economists, anthropologists, and so on; the absence of papers written by geographers is apparent. It is in this context that, at the end of this paper, a set of issues worth investigating in the Geography of Mining in contemporary Mexico is presented.
