Message from the President

Mensaje del Presidente

José Manuel Enciso*

* President of ANCAM.

With this issue of our Journal, fully written in English language and published on-line, our Association starts a new era of progress and modernization that surely will reinforce the international presence of Mexican and Latin American cardiology. As it is known, the National Association of Cardiologist of Mexico (ANCAM) is a relatively young professional congregation, whose backbone is supported by a decisive vocation of inclusion and democracy. In this spirit, we have a policy of wide-open doors and understanding with other brotherly medical associations with whom we have several agreements and/or joint ventures. For example, the National Society of Echocardiography of Mexico (SONECOM), the Society of Interventional Cardiology of Mexico (SOCIME), the Mexican Society of Electrophysiology and Cardiac Stimulation (SOMEEC), the Mexican Association for the Prevention of Atherosclerosis and its Complications (AMPAC), the National Association of Cardiologists at the Service of State Workers (ANCISSSTE), the National Association of Cardiologists of "La Raza" Medical Center (ANCCMR) and the Mexican Society of Cardiac Surgery (SMCC) have adopted our Journal as their official organ, widening our universe of influence. Many of these organizations are part of the Alliance for a Healthy Heart, a summit organization working hand in hand with our Federal Health authorities in the field of cardiometabolic prevention.

It is clear that the new format of the Journal demands a higher quality and thoroughness of the publishing material. In the name of the Executive Board of our Association I invite everybody interested in publish in our organ to work together with the new Editorial Committee, headed by Dr. Eduardo Meaney, to raise the scientific content of our Journal. We wish the best to Dr. Meaney and his international team, and we trust that our Journal, in their capable hands, will reach the expected success.

As our new Editor-in Chief has stated, the responsibility of this task not only corresponds to him or to the new Editorial team, but it is shared by everyone. We badly need to improve the scientific value of our publication organ in order to achieve the access to the most important bibliometric indices of the world. We are now embarking in a certainly marvelous but difficult journey. If our collective efforts are able to take the ship to fruition, we will gain a prestigious cardiovascular journal, not only serving as a bond among our membership, and a vehicle to disseminate knowledge publishing the highest quality clinical and scientific material on all aspects of cardiology, but also acting as a window display of Mexican cardiology. As it has been established, our Journal will include original research papers, technical evaluations, position statements of our Association on specific and critical topics, and review and reflection articles. Altogether, our Journal is eager to convert itself in a great forum for the exchange of scientific information.

In these ominous times of our nation, with economic stagnation, institutional decay and social and political disruption, it is pertinent to remember the famous phrase of the French philosopher François Marie Arouet (better known as Voltaire): "tending one's own garden", because this saying states that all of us have a personal, inalienable duty. If other gardeners do not do their jobs, we can denounce and criticize them, but the other faults are not a good excuse to neglect our own obligations. And our garden, our spacious, rough, and valuable Eden is the teaching, the learning, the researching, and the practice of cardiovascular medicine, serving above all to our fellow human beings. And one of the flowery corners of this garden is, undoubtedly, our Journal. Let us make it together a greener and fruitful vineyard.
