Preface

With the aim to continue promoting the development of the Pacific use of the radioactive materials, and nuclear technologies, the Radiation Physics Division of the Mexican Physical Society organized the III International Symposium on Radiation Physics, which was held in the city of Guanajuato, State of Guanajuato, located in the center of the Mexican Republic, from February 26th through March 2nd, 2007.

The symposium was attended by 49 participants consisting of professors, researchers, graduate and undergraduate students from 14 institutions. A total of 20 oral presentations plus a number of posters addressed a wide variety of subjects related to the study or use of radiation in physics. Talks were given on fundamental physics, instrument development, applications in the natural environment, material characterization, industry and scientific policy, among others.

We would like to recognize the exceptional performance of the local organizing committee and officials of the Universidad de Guanajuato, whose generous support and efforts on behalf of the symposium made its success possible.

The Symposium was also made possible thanks to the financial support of our sponsors: Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT), Subsecretaría de Educacion Superior e Investigación Científica de la Secretaría de Educacion Pública (SESIC–SEP), Division de Física de Radiaciones, Sociedad Mexicana de Física (DFRSMF) Universidad de Guanajuato and Universidad Nacional Autonoma de México (UNAM).

Finally, the organizing committee would like to thank all the participants whose contributions made this Symposium a success. We look forward to their support of future international symposia on radiation physics in México and encourage participation of researchers and scientists in this field.
