FRAGA-GRAELLS, Elena et al. Goblet cell and dry eye: a citation network analysis. Rev. mex. oftalmol [online]. 2022, vol.96, n.6, pp.247-258.  Epub 10-Abr-2023. ISSN 2604-1227.  https://doi.org/10.24875/rmo.m22000243.

Background:

Goblet cells secrete mucins, cytokines and specific antigens for the immune response of the ocular surface. Alteration in goblet cell density and its secretion lead to an unstable tear film and therefore dry eye.

Objective:

This study analyzed the connections between the most cited publications and their citations and journals about goblet cells and dry eye, with the aim of analyzing data such as the size of their clusters and core, and to quantify literature volume to guide future research.

Method:

A search of "goblet cell and dry eye" was made through Web of Science and analyzed with CitNetExplorer® to obtain top-cited publications and to identify clusters and core publications.

Results:

555 publications with 3066 citations generated on the web have been found. It must be highlighted that 2016 and 2017 were the years with the largest number of publications. The most quoted ones were The definition and classification of dry eye disease: report of the definition and classification subcommittee of the International Dry Eye Worshop, by Lemp et al., which was published in 2007. Three groups about different research areas on this same field have been found using the clustering function: dry eye, mucines and treatment.

Conclusions:

Goblet cell and dry eye is a relevant topic for researchers showing connections among those. Enlarge goblet cell knowledge will provide improvement for dry eye treatments.
