Abstract
LAGUNA MAQUEDA, Óscar Emilio and SALINAS-QUIROZ, Fernando. Variations in Parenting Styles in People with Sexual and Emotional Diversity: The Case of Gay Men and Lesbian Women in Mexico City. Debate fem. [online]. 2020, vol.60, pp.127-153. Epub Nov 27, 2020. ISSN 2594-066X. https://doi.org/10.22201/cieg.2594066xe.2020.60.06.
This document provides information on two research projects focused on analyzing the parenting arrangements of gay fathers and lesbian mothers in Mexico City, both of which used instrumental case studies. Data from the interviews were interpreted from the perspective of critical gender theory. It was found that people with sexual and emotional diversity tend to reproduce the mandates of gender culture associated with building families. However, the response to the exclusions and discriminations derived from homophobia and homoprejudice drives lesbian mothers and gay fathers to develop parenting practices that respond to those power vectors, and in turn reformulate traditional care and parenting practices.
