CRUZ FLORES, Gabriela de la. Education Policy and Equity: Challenges in Contemporary Mexico. Rev. latinoam. estud. educ. [online]. 2022, vol.52, n.1, pp.71-91. Epub 02-Oct-2023. ISSN 2448-878X. https://doi.org/10.48102/rlee.2022.52.1.468.
To contribute to the construction of educational policies that have equity at their core, we postulate the need to respond to five challenges of contemporary Mexico. The first one consists of defining educational policies that converge in repairing the social fabric since policies must ensure peace, well-being, and the common good; otherwise, they are destined to fail. A second challenge is to build policies that prioritize the attention of sectors and groups that have been systematically marginalized either because of their social, economic, racial, disability, or even migratory status. A third challenge lies in defining policies that move from educational to systemic equity, which implies generating cross-cutting multisectoral actions. A fourth challenge involves developing a new school model that contributes to developing communities and all the agents involved, where school knowledge is the driving force for reflection and transformation. Finally, a fifth challenge consists of betting on the initial and continuous training of teachers as agents of change that contribute to social justice.
