Abstract

AGUIRRE-SALAZAR, JJ  and  MANCERA-ELIAS, Gabriel. Post-extubation stridor in the pediatric patient. Anest. Méx. [online]. 2018, vol.30, n.3, pp.55-62. ISSN 2448-8771.

The case of a seven-month-old male patient submitted to anorectoplastia by a perianal fistula, is presented. The patient was intubated by complications of tracheal tube on the second attempt. After the admission of the patient to the postanesthetic care unit, the infant presented stridor and supraesternals shots, with severe respiratory distress, secondary to laryngeal edema, which required tracheal intubation again. A theory explains that the absence of air leakage around the tracheal tube in intubated infants, is a predictive value for the emergence of the stridor post-extubation.

Keywords : intubation stridor; orotracheal extubation; post-extubation laryngeal edema post.
