Resumen

HERNANDEZ-CORTEZ, Enrique. Old laryngospasm complication: new treatments. Anest. Méx. [online]. 2017, vol.29, n.3, pp.16-25. ISSN 2448-8771.

The perioperative laryngospasm is an emergency of the airway, it is responsible for a large number of complications in the infant ranging from mild to severe. It is a reflection of protective closure of the glottis. It is an entity that is relatively common in the pediatric patient, which depends on multiple factors. The main objective is to make rapid diagnosis and apply corrective and appropriate treatment not to allow the patient to deteriorate with hypoxia, bradycardia, and obstructive pulmonary edema.

The treatment consists of applying some local maneuvers to open the upper airway and administer anesthetic agents. If the maneuver is not successful, including external maneuvers, to resolve the blockage of the airway, (pulmonary pressure in the upper part of the chest and Larson´s maneuver) then the intubation of the trachea of urgency with succinylcholine is the standard treatment.
