Today, design is fundamental to the world economy, it allows competition and encourages the development of innovations in various areas of the market. Expanding and diversifying the product offering results in options to meet user needs, an undeniable advancement in design practice. However, at the same time the production of solid waste derived from it has grown notably, which generates environmental deterioration. In addition, the supply of design products has been concentrated in the most economically favored sector and has left out a large part of the world population, which, having urgent design needs, are not met, because they do not constitute a market of interest for the productive sector in general.

The content of this article is the result of the collective debate and the exchange of ideas between its authors, carried out based on the analysis of documentary sources and their own experience as academics. Our objective is to promote reflection for the creation of a common front oriented towards a design practice - in all its manifestations - focused both on social development as well as on environmental care simultaneously. In addition, a design exercise based on ethics and commitment to the environment and society.
