Resumen

RODRIGUEZ-GAMEZ, Liz Ileana  y  CABRERA-PEREYRA, José Antonio. Economic Convergence Across Mexican Municipalities: A Local Parameters Approach. Ens. Rev. econ. [online]. 2020, vol.39, n.2, pp.143-186.  Epub 12-Abr-2021. ISSN 2448-8402.  https://doi.org/10.29105/ensayos39.2-2.

The goal is discovering the spatial pattern of the convergence across Mexican municipalities (1999-2014). The study uses the geographically weighted regression (GWR) to investigate where local economic convergence occurs and if municipalities move at different speeds. The results show us a non-stationarity convergence and provide evidence of a heterogeneous and geographically differentiated process. The originality of this work lies in the application of a local approach to clarify global findings and unmask the heterogeneity of the convergence process; the study also offers evidence at the municipal level, which is rarely provided by convergence studies, due to the availability and timeliness of the information. This limitation should be evaluated based on this new evidence and emphasize the findings of the geographical dynamics of economic convergence, for the design of regional policies in Mexico.
