Resumen

GONZALEZ FLORES, José Gustavo. Population and demographic dynamic of San José del Alamo (Viesca) and settlements of La Laguna (1731-1825). Let. hist. [online]. 2021, n.25, 00004.  Epub 06-Jun-2022. ISSN 2448-8372.  https://doi.org/10.31836/lh.25.7341.

This text analyzes the population and demographic dynamics of San José del Alamo and its jurisdiction in the Comarca Lagunera, area known also as La Laguna, in the southwest of the state of Coahuila. The Alamo reductions arose when the colonization project of the Tlaxcaltecs of Parras was imposed over the powerful landowner Marquis de Aguayo’s own project. The first years were difficult, but La Laguna’s population had a moderate growth despite the constant incursions of rival Indians. By 1825, the Alamo and the nearby haciendas were already established, with a demographic structure similar to that of other consolidated settlements in the Mexican northeast.

Palabras llave : La Laguna; Alamo; Viesca; population; reductions; Tlaxcaltecs.
