MELCHOR BARRERA, Zoraya. Actions to confront smallpox in Jalisco, 19th and 20th centuries. Let. hist. [online]. 2021, n.25, 00001. Epub 06-Jun-2022. ISSN 2448-8372. https://doi.org/10.31836/lh.25.7309.
This article analyzes public health actions against smallpox in Jalisco during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. In order to do this, I consulted documents from Jalisco’s Historical Archive, the Secretariat of Health’s Historical Archive, the Diocesan Archive of Guadalajara, the Parochial Archive of Santiago de Tonalá, the Digital Repository of El Informador, and government reports. I also interviewed subjects who participated in the process of eradicating the disease. I propose that the measures implemented throughout the studied period underwent modifications and did not follow linear progress; however, it should be noted that some of them persisted and managed to become institutionalized - such was the case regarding vaccination.
