Abstract

ALMAZAN REYES, Marco Aurelio. Forests in transition: Access and forest exploitation fo forestas in the volcano Nevado de Toluca, from the Mexcan Porfiriato to the Post-revolution. Let. hist. [online]. 2019, n.20, pp.65-90. ISSN 2448-8372.  https://doi.org/10.31836/lh.20.7040.

This article shows the trend towards extensive and commercial logging in forests surrounding the Nevado de Toluca volcano, in the State of Mexico from the Porfiriato (1876-1911) until the early 1930s, a process that involved the search of the government to homogenize the diversity of forms of exploitation of forests. The work also illustrates that the commercial interest in the forests was encouraged both by the governmental sphere and by the possibilities of the growing lumber market, in such a way that owners of forests, in different property regimes, gradually became interested in adopting that scheme of exploitation.

Keywords : Access to forests; Forest exploitation; Forests property; Commodification of forests.
