Resumen
ALFARO URIBE, Rodrigo F. et al. Otictlaneuhtique tlali yaxca totlaçonantzin… “To who lease the land owned by Our Lady...” Claim of the brethren of Sayula. Let. hist. [online]. 2018, n.19, pp.47-77. ISSN 2448-8372.
The article examines a document from a confraternity dedicated to the Immaculate Conception in Sayula, written in Nahuatl through the seventeenth century. The members of the brotherhood inform that they rented out a piece of land. The house, however, has been occupied by a Spaniard and they request to have it back. The text allows us to take sight of a small part of the daily life of a confraternity, a Christian brotherhood which was well accepted among the Indigenous communities of New Spain. Its existence provided them an opportunity of being autonomous within the colonial regime.
