ZAPATERA LLINARES, Alberto. The generalization of patterns as a tool to introduce algebraic thinking in primary education. Educ. mat. [online]. 2022, vol.34, n.2, pp.134-152. Epub 10-Mar-2023. ISSN 2448-8089. https://doi.org/10.24844/em3402.05.
Researchers and didactic currents, such as Early Algebra, introduce algebraic thinking from the first years of schooling, incorporating tasks of generalization of patterns, relationships and properties. In this work, the responses of 106 Primary Education students to a pattern generalization problem are studied, analyzing the level of success, the degrees of development and the use of strategies, and a case study is carried out. It has been proven that Primary students are prepared to work on the generalization of patterns and that the strategies most used in lower grades are additive and in higher grades, functional ones.
