Abstract

Efficiency measurement through data envelope (DEA) and its relationship to capitalization rate: the case of the thirteen most important commercial banks in Mexico, 2004-2008. Investig. adm. Carried out in a first section, a review of the theoretical and methodological foundations of the analysis of the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), as well as a review of some studies applied to the banking system at the international level. In a second section, the banking system in Mexico is characterized by its structure and organization. In the third part, presents the application of DEA methodology to the 13 major commercial banks in Mexico, looking for finding patterns of efficiency, and then will search their relationship between the index of capitalization and the efficiency of the banks, through the use of econometric estimates with panel data. Finally, the main conclusions arrived at the studio will be displayed, consistent in the identification of variables that generate inefficiency in the banking system, as well as the relationship between efficiency and the index of capitalization.
