Resumen
ROJAS BERRIO, Sandra P.; VEGA RODRIGUEZ, Ricardo y RODRIGUEZ MARTINEZ, Eric. Outsourcing and third party management in Colombian little and middle-sized exporting or potentially exporting businesses. Investig. adm. [online]. 2012, vol.41, n.109, pp.32-44. ISSN 2448-7678.
The objective of this research was the evaluation of the outsourcing schemes used in the Colombian SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises), exporting or potentially exporting, and gives elements in order to analyze this aspect of their management.
To obtain this goal, a survey was designed and validated by experts, and then it was sent to a database of 10.000 Colombian companies, distributed in 11 cities, getting a gross response rate of 12,2%, and a net response rate of 7,4% (with an error of 3,6% at 95% confidence level), after the collected data depuration. The response rate was improved through 3 mailing waves as well as telephonic and personal reinforcement.
The results showed a low level of outsourcing utilization in this group of companies. This process is not perceived like an efficient and easy way to get better productivity and to improve the cost-benefit ratio in the subcontracted processes. There were not differences between the cities' subsamples. A basic reason for the results is that these kinds of businesses do not have enough computer online systems in order to do a better use of the outsourcing scheme. Future research could look for mechanisms to improve the situation described in this work.
