RODRIGUEZ MINOR, Rebeca  e  REICH LOPEZ, Christian. Neoliberalism in Argentina. Citizen’s perceptions of a fatalistic chronicle. El trimestre econ [online]. 2021, vol.88, n.350, pp.483-522.  Epub 18-Jun-2021. ISSN 2448-718X.  https://doi.org/10.20430/ete.v88i350.1082.

The shocking economic crisis that Argentina experienced in 2001 was a painful consequence of ultra-neoliberal governmental policy, which was dedicated to the privatization and manipulation of the internal monetary value; it was also affected by the USD-ars exchange rate. Today, 20 years later, we see that the lesson was not learnt. History repeats itself, with the new ultra-right winged government that adopted a volatile economy, hyperinflation and a devaluated currency that led Mauricio Macri to take unpopular corrective measures, very similar to those assumed in 2001 to prevent capital outflows. This duality leads us to analyze governmental performances and citizens’ perceptions through time, in order to understand electoral outcomes, preferences, perspectives and political reaction, according to economic experience. A study of this type allows us to visualize and understand, the truth that this great South American nation is experiencing, linking theory with practice, in such a way that we can detect trends and strategies for social and economic benefit in the near future. Mainly, due to the political change that represents the return of the left party to the power, after the fateful result of Macri’s government.
