Resumen

REBOLLAR-REBOLLAR, Samuel; CHIATCHOUA, Cesaíre  y  GOMEZ-TENORIO, Germán. Application effects of a tax in Mexico: case pork meat. Anál. econ. [online]. 2019, vol.34, n.86, pp.245-261. ISSN 2448-6655.

The objective is to evaluate the effect of the application of a direct tax on the production of pork in carcasses in Mexico 2015, a spatial model with non-linear programming was used. The model, under optimal conditions, underestimated national production by 0.4%, overestimated imports and regional-national consumption by 2.5 and 0.4% with an optimal Net Social Value of 37,783.9 million pesos. A direct 16% tax reduces domestic production by 0.4%, decrease imports by 1.0%, consumption and national welfare would decrease by 0.7% and 0.3%. Finally, under the conditions proposed, at the regional level, the market is sensitive to the tax, the entire market would be harmed, but more consumers, both with lower consumption and with higher prices. It is recommended not to apply a tax on production due to the disincentive effects that this would cause in the swine activity.

Palabras llave : Pork in carcass; Tax; Production; Nonlinear Programming; Social Net Value.
