PEREZ FERNANDEZ, Alberto; RIVAS MARTINEZ, Mayra Iliana; MARTINEZ LUIS, David  and  VENEGAS VENEGAS, José Apolonio. Restructuring of Pemex and Its effect on wages and the labor market in Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche. Anál. econ. [online]. 2018, vol.33, n.82, pp.111-124. ISSN 2448-6655.

The competitiveness of energy sector in Mexico include structural changes in the companies involved in exploration and extraction of crude oil. The restructuring of Pemex is based on the reduction of liabilities through dismissals and the cancellation of contracts for general services. The objective was to identify and relate variables with the acceptance of salary by unemployed population in Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche, as a result of massive dismissals of Pemex. Information was obtained from 390 interviews older than 14 years and the data were analyzed using a regression model and multiple correlation. The significant variables (p<0.05) with negative influence were age and months unemployed; only schooling has a positive effect on wages rates. The restructuring of Pemex caused in short term an increase in unemployment and a decrease in salary rates.

Keywords : energy reform; unemployment; wage rates.
