GAMBOA GARCIA, José. Boycotting Mexicans: The Anti-Chinese Movement in Chihuahua. Hist. mex. [online]. 2021, vol.70, n.3, pp.1183-1230. Epub 19-Feb-2021. ISSN 2448-6531. https://doi.org/10.24201/hm.v70i3.4181.
Based on information from federal and local archives, contemporary newspapers and, to a lesser extent, secondary sources, this article has the objective of revealing the particularities of the anti-Chinese movement in Chihuahua. There, Chinese immigrants established successful relationships with different groups of people, many of them mutually beneficial. During the sinophobic campaign, a variety of economic interests and nationalistic arguments came together, as well as into conflict. For their part, Chinese immigrants were successful in their lobbying to the authorities. Unlike in other parts of the country, they were not hated by large parts of the community, and it was the sinophobes who suffered the animosity of many Chihuahuans, who manifested their disapproval of the actions taken against Chinese immigrants.
