The objective of this study was to determine how the changes that occurred during the period of 2005-2013 about the herd composition, physical performance in cattle and the milk prices influenced the Gross Value of Production (GVP) of the dairy section in Jalisco State, this disaggregated into four production systems: Dual purpose, specialized, family farming and semi-specialized. To contrast 2005 and 2013 a comparative-static macroeconomic model of Descriptive Economics was used. The results showed that the number of animals decresead 19.9%, particularly in dual purpose, family farming and specialized systems, while the semi-especialized increased 26.5%. Real money income per animal increased in every system: dual purpose (from $6.688 to $10.200), specialized (from $ 22.566 to $ 33.781), family farming (from $ 9.226 to $ 21.674), and semi-specialized (from $ 16.557 to $ 25.936). The VBP of dairy subsector grew 32.1% from $ 8279.7 to $ 10,934.2 million (constants 2013) between 2005 and 2013, the effects of physical yields and real prices for kg milk were favorable to economic growth, which multiplied 1.43 and 1.09 times the VBP; however, herd composition having declined in absolute terms, as well as the fact that in relative terms the family farming production was displaced by the three production systems, caused that the VBP decreased 16%, so then, the rising of 32.1% in dairy VBP was due only to the effect of physical productivity (yields) and price herd, not to the herd rebuilding.
