Resumen

SALAZAR JIMENEZ, Claudia. The first lesbian fiction in Peru: an approach to Confessions of Dorish Dan. Inter disciplina [online]. 2022, vol.10, n.27, pp.101-119.  Epub 03-Oct-2022. ISSN 2448-5705.  https://doi.org/10.22201/ceiich.24485705e.2022.27.82146.

In 1929, the first lesbian-themed novel was published in Peru, Confessions of Dorish Dam, by Delia Colmenares. Based on the concept of “lesbian fictions”, coined by the Argentinian critic Laura Arnés, this essay analyzes Colmenares’s novel based on the critical disruptions that her discourse presents in three aspects: the first is the criticism of the model and the social expectations imposed on Peruvian women at the beginning of the 20th century. The second is its subversive character against traditional representations of sexuality by making the lesbian desire visible and by constructing what I call a “lesbian ear”. Finally, it will analyze the discussions that this novel engages with the hegemonic discourses of Peru and how it responds, assumes and disputes the construction of the national ideology, opening an incision in the aesthetics and politics of modernism and costumbrism, and making a strong critic of their own social class.
